There are one two issues with the current arena guidelines in the UK where dealing with kinetic energy weapons are concerned I'll grant you that - 10mm polycarb mandated for both heavy spinners and feather spinners (... clearly both can't be right !).

Anyway, I'm afraid I don't have more details to give at the moment, the post is a tentative enquiry to find out if there's interest - which it appears there is, though the point about spinners is an interesting one which I'll take on board and have a think.

Regarding the spinner restrictions in the ruleset referenced above, to my knowledge a UK event organiser has never turned away a feather spinner in a spinner-compliant arena under these rules. They were added to try to stop 'newbies' bolting a 1m length of steel to the top of a motor without a second's thought for structural integrity etc. So don't read too much into them on that count, they're not there to be prohibitive !

I'm heading back to the UK tomorrow evening, but will be back in mid-late January for a few weeks again.

I had the impression that the UK comps tended to put all the feathers in at once in an arena with a pit.

Quite different from the one on one comp we are use to.

Its not that I am anti pit. I am in favor of a pit for equally matched pushy bot fights.

And I can understand that from a promoter’s point of view filling a heavy weight arena with the little bots to entertain the crowd sitting way back makes sense.

Competing at an event like that doesn’t appeal to me.

I enjoy Rumbles at the end of our events. Normally there is no clear winner and most of the time we don’t even try to pick a winner.

It’s just to me a real fight is one on one, we tried an annihilator only once and that was enough. Smile

But don’t take any notice of me; there is no way I can afford time and money for an adventure like this in the foreseeable future. Just getting to Sydney and Brisbane next year is the absolute limit for us.

Rotwang your information is both correct and incorrect - I can see where it comes from. In the UK we have a mixture of Heavyweights and Featherweights thus if you take your feather to a heavyweight event then yes you'll find yourself part of large mele's in the arena, two featherweights in a 12m x 10m arena with an audience of 1000 people just doesn't work, no matter how much you might want it to.

Where Featherweight events are run, which I would say are more comparable to what you guys get up to here then you have the standard one on one fights.

We're recording our event (Rebel Robots) for TV, hoping beyond all hopes that we can at some point 2010 2011 do a proper world championships (featherweight of course, the true world weight division)
I loved Brisbane while I was there, it doesnt look likely that I'll make it this year for the event, your a year too late!!! lol
