i tink i should give it a miss Confused
http://www.youtube.com/user/crustydemonsully
an overweight hobbyweight(bout 1-1.5kgs over)
takes 3 hours to charge (2 3000mah batts on a ... 3amp charger i think)
and i have only tested it on materials weighing bout 1-1.5 kg, a little air on them Twisted Evil
the drum keeps ungluing so i think this will be more of a muck-up bot, although it is my first one
i would replace the rc car with a proper drill drive system but i don't have the money right now
tell me what you think

when you do change the RC car make the bot into a fetherweight bot no one seams to run hobby weight atm. so that puts its current weight into the right area. and some weight to increase armour with the drill's to drive it
Someone may be able to help charge at an event to reduce that time a lot.
Looks good for a first bot. nice idea on how to spin up the drum.
If you can come to sidetracked anyway to see what the competition is like it might give you some ideas and stuff as well.

thats really cool Very Happy probably cant bulk it up anymore with just an rc car driving it unless you jam a much bigger jaycar motor in the gravel hog and run it off a different controller.

hope you bring it for demos at least anyway. the robot i took to the first robowars was much less capable then that Razz

Brett thought he might be stopping by my work sometime through the week. I can give him the scales then and he can probably get them to sidetracked.

Normally no entry fee for anything other than the feathers in the main comp.

shreddy chances are my time will have at least one eliminated bot by then and it should be able to stand up to yours (and mine do not do much damage) so chances are on sunday you can attack one bot for a bit.

What time should competitors get there?
And can i register 2 robots and get 2 competitor badges and my other team mate arrive just before the actual event starts?

I would aim to be there between 9.30am and 10am for car unpacking and Pit Setup

Tech Inspection, Failsafe Checks, Weigh In, Registration checks should start at about 10am

First round draw at 10.45. First Round at 11am

Your team mate can arrive just prior to start, but not if hes bringing a bot or any equipment necessary to tech inspection.

First round fight order can be juggled around with the cooperation of other teams, but if you're not ready to fight when called and there are no others ready to take your place, you forfeit..

An idea I had for this event was to run a "second chance" competition for those who are knocked out of the eliminator comp by two losses.

Basically, if eliminated, you can then run as many grudge matches as you like in between the rest of the eliminator tree.. each grudge match is judged and a point allocated to the winner. The bot with the greatest number of points at the end of the event is the winner of the second-chance comp.

The only tricky bit I am having trouble with is working out how to assign points to bots that are knocked out of the main comp later on, and enter the second chance comp partway through.

It seems to me that if you make it to the quarter finals, then get eliminated, you should get some bonus points to carry into the grudge comp to put you in a with a chance, or else there would be no point moving to the second comp at a late stage, since you wouldnt be able to catch up to those who started in it after round 2 eliminations.

But I cant figure out how many points you should get given depending on when you were knocked out. Any thoughts on that ?

Also, what about the possibility of running the grudge comp as a "no spinner" comp to maximise the likelyhood that those bots will be able to return for many fights without incurring too much damage ?

Spinners could enter, but with weapons disabled.. that might make for some less exciting wedge/bonking fights, but I figure they're better than no fights because of breakages.

Any thoughts ?
