I'm running A123's, there are 12 cells (39.8v) in the photo, but will only be running 10 cells (33v) in combat.

EDIT:

Heh, I hope so, it was cool before, more of a science experiment, now I'd like to take it up a notch, and make it a bit dangerous. KE won't be far from scissorhands hopefully Smile

Progress.

New version fits inside a 350 x 350 octagon, which is surprisingly small even when compared to the old test frame which was 260 x 370.

Comparing the old with the new

Another angle, will end up about the same height, maybe a fraction less

Close up, still plenty of space to add various things and make changes in the future.

According to CAD, a full 3.25mm hardox shell would be 7.2kg, just a fraction too heavy, replacing the top lid with 1mm stainless brings it down to a healthy 5.4kg, which leaves a good 1kg for some nasty teeth to weld on Smile

Anyway, gonna go dig this sheet of hardox out and start cutting Cool

Had epic dreams of using the oxy at work to bend it all into shape, ended up just slicing it up into sections and welding it. Not one side is at the same angle, but that's normal for me Laughing Will take my time welding it now to avoid taking all the temper out the hardox, and will cut the base plate to suit it after that.

Shell welded up completely, base plate cut out and hammer press fitted inside the shell. Will weld in some tabs to bolt the base to the shell tomorrow. Will mount the internals during the week and move onto wiring it up Smile

Started on the new meltyboard, should be just a fraction larger then a spektrum receiver. If this board proves to be more battle worthy then the last, I'll get a decent PCB etched up instead of my horrid rats nest wiring.

MBX: The Future

Got a bunch of ideas lined up for version 0.2b and 0.3, things I want to implement now, but don't have the luxury of having enough time before Ideas Festival (I.F. from now on).

0.2b, essentially 0.2a, but will test a new control method, and test a brushless setup, aiming for 1500RPM. From version 0.2b onwards , I'll be running 100% my own code, right now I'm using about 60% of my own, with core parts written by Rich. My new control design won't work on Rich bits, so I'll be working on my own code for this. Will be happy once I finish this code, because then I can say I designed, built and coded a melty brain 100% from scratch Razz

0.3 will be three wheeled, brushless and use a new control method, aiming for 2000rpm. Translation speed should increase again, aiming for 5km/h linear, which is slow to compared to other bots, but when the whole thing is spinning at 130km/h, it's not that bad.

Pending on the success of 0.3, it will probably be repackaged into a new robot, developed for serious competition. This might take a few years to achieve, but it's a goal I'm extremely interested in achieving Smile

Have to say im impressed.

Look forward to seing you achieve your goal in the future and decimate all Very Happy

Its good to see someone stick to there project and work on it as long as it takes untill its finished instead of just giving up.

Ordered the new 200G accelerometer yesterday, it arrived at 10am this morning Shocked Farnell are quick! Will try not to destroy this one Razz

Just need to make up a break out board for it since it's SMD Confused

Made the first tooth today, it's made out of 8mm thick car leaf spring. Will bolt them onto the shell with 2 or 4 x M12 8.8 bolts.

Drives are all done now, working on the meltyboard tonight, going to load the new code and start wiring it up. Need to work out if I'm going to have enough space for 2 x 10cell packs in parallel and still fit all the electronics, i'd prefer two packs in it because with the 1 motor on 12cells got the batteries pretty warm after 3mins of testing, so 2 motors might just be too much for 1 string of cells. I'd never have thought I'd see the day I'd have 20 x A123 cells in a featherweight Smile

OT: Testing some photo enhancement software on my iPhone to improve the quality of photos from the 2MP camera. It basically takes 6 photos, aligns them, filters them and then rolls them into a sharper more focused photo with less pixelation from crappy light levels.
