Robowars Arena for sale ???

Hi All

After much discussion with Barry (the owner of Sidetracked) we have decided to put our portable Robowars Arena up for sale. This does not mean we dont want events here at Sidetracked - we just feel it would be best used a few times a year in backyards etc - not just here. We would still like an event here each January, and would happily provide the premises and Pit Lane for such an event. Perhaps all the builders could form a co-op and each pay towards it? Anyone interested should reply direct to me via email at mark@sidetracked.com.au

Thanks - Mark

Sold. The Robowars arena will be of to Geelong after the next big Sidetracked event. Very Happy

I am very grateful to Barry and Mark for all the trouble, effort and expense they have gone to giving Robot combat a place in there complex.

I look forward to working in with them in the future.

Thanks everyone. Very Happy

And I am really happy and relieved to read that the Kkeerroo’s are getting to build their own arena.

Partly I don’t wont to be the villain of the piece but mostly I am very pleased that by keeping the old arena in Vic the money isn’t wasted in transport costs and the Australian scene ends up with an extra arena.

Regular Piazza events without having to wait for Ideas festivals to roll around is an extra bonus.

How are you placed for the regular January Robowars event? If you have one, will it be at Sidetracked or somewhere else?

Yes January Robowars Event will be at Sidetracked and Organized by Brett.

I discussed that on Friday with Brett. He was going to get things moving. I take possession of what’s left of the arena after that.

So we have that event, the Sydney lightweight event, then Ideas then Battelshed or something like that.
Mixed in with a full season of back yard vic events.

Update on the Sidetracked arena situation.

Mark and Barry have decided to keep the present mobile arena set up in the normal position next to the corporate room that we use for the pits.
This means we can have one-day events at Sidetracked through the year just with a handful of local bots without a lot of setting up and putting away.

The plan is to build house bots controlled from coin in the slot arcade type consoles so the arena and space it occupies can generate some income and interest in Sidetracked and Robowars between events.

Brett and I will be combining to build the house bots, which will be hammer bots.

I am working on the prototype. Cool

to bad about you not getting the arena Gary but this new idea sounds good and promising for vic events. GL.

Will the house robots have nice strong armour to avoid the need for a lot of repairs?
IMHO they should not have to conform to the weight restrictions like competitor bots if needed to have the extra armour

Yes I am a bit sad about not getting the arena but as you say its good for the sport.

I will build a small back yard set up with just 2 polly carb panels for testing and muck around on build days and there is still the all terrain big bots we can do in Geelong or the little ones if anyone is interested.

House bot is misleading, as these bots will never fight or be in the ring with real fighting bots.

And yes they need huge batteries no restriction on weight. Barry wants them larger than feathers for effect anyway so at least the size of Weasel probably bigger.

These “Arcade Bots” will need to run all day every day without attention, just be plugged in to charge overnight.

More like a rented truck than a pro class drag car.

What about some lifters to add some variety? Let the people who like pounding things to use hammers and lifters for those whole like driving skill. The Robotsrus guys uses lifters for their Robogeddon entertainment platform (http://www.robotsrus.co.uk/robogeddon.asp).

This sounds really good, could be my replacement for Daytona as a filler @ RoboWars Razz

Thought about lifters and they can be made to self right easily enough but getting the hammers to reliably self-right is a potential problem.

IMHO the hammers would be more exciting than a full field (4) at this stage of slow lifters.

Remember this set up must run unattended.

The shells will be shock mounted and a large 7 segment 2-digit display will show the number of hits a bot has sustained so a winner can be decided.

Was thinking more along the lines of half the bots were lifters and the other half was hammers. Regardless, I'll be keen to see the final results. Keep us posted Gary, and get photos of the prototype up when you can!
