Just saying that that most of the other guys tend to bite a lot harder then I do when new people ask non-specific questions. Not trying to be rude, just giving you a warning.
Just saying I need help and not saying what you want help with just leaves me more confused then helpful.

wow children, lets all play nice now shall we.

Welcome gentleman and good on you for getting your mates involved, thats what this crazy hobby is all about.

If you wish send me some messages or add me to msn and ill help u if possible.

What areas would you like information in though? to build a basic robot you need radio controll gear, motors/batteries/wheels etc and either a speed controller or some other way to make the motors turn when commanded

theres some links to various tutorials around, i forgot where they r but do some googling or look into robotcombat.com and start looking at the various designs/parts and how others have done it

LOL, in the end, Daniel gets flamed! Welcome guys, when I started out building robots, I found the other builder's progress reports very helpful, they often have good photos and tips. You will usually get a good response to posting questions in build reports if they are on-topic.

You can also visit the main US combat robot forum: http://forums.delphiforums.com/THERFL/start Hardly any photos, but plenty of good info and chatter.

The main thing to start off helping you is knowing a bit about your skills and budget and resources. You don't really need to have a lot of mechanical skills but it helps us pitch answers at the right level. If we know what tools you have access to and what sort of money you want to spend, that helps us come up with a good answer to your questions too.

Finally, it always helps to ask specific questions rather than generalities; "How do I put a wheel on the end of a drill motor?" will get you way more quality replies than simply "How do I build a robot?"

EDIT: visit this site: http://www.madoverlord.com/Robots/2008RG.t for a great collection of robot combat videos. In Australia, we mostly go for the Featherweight class, but the bigger sizes sure are entertaining!

If only there was a "Posting rules.....Newbies please read" thread somewhere. Maybe as a sticky at the top of General Chatter.
