What you are looking for is voltage stability under load and ripple specs on the supply.
Small Linears
usually
have less ripple than small Switchmodes do, all other things being equal, so a Linear would be better for charging SLA's most of the time. (They dont like Ripple)
The Triton doesnt care about a little bit of ripple on the input, its more interested in the amps, and its cheaper to get a high amp switchmode than a high amp linear since switchmodes dont need the big iron transformer and filtering caps of a linear.
A *good* switchmode ($$) will have very small ripple under load, and will be fine for charging SLA's directly as well, but make sure you 'scope it especially if you are running it close its rated output current.
$ for Watt, you cant beat the modded-PC power supply. Add a small SLA to smooth things out and supply the current peaks and you should be right to run at least 2 or 3 tritons. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people
