Yes, there are quite a few of us. We actually just started our own incorparated club and are currently trying to get our own arena. Have you started building a robot yet?

haven't started building yet. I wanted to wait until I knew if it'd be worth my time (and barrel scrapped money!).

Is there anywhere I can find more info?

You might want to have a look through here http://www.robowars.org/wikka/TechnicalArticles Do you have any ideas? What type of weapon do you like?

You can search this forum up in the top right corner. You will probably find that many questions you have will have been answered somewhere in these pages.

I’ve got a pretty good idea of what I want to make. The main issue I guess is, I want to make something in the hobby/feather weight range, and I’d like to know if anyone else works in those ranges (probably hobby weight for my first one). Would be a bit of a bummer to make something I can’t use.
As for weapons, I think I’ll do something with teeth…

No hobbyweights in Australia, but everyone has feathers.
By teeth do you mean a spinner? We could use with more spinners around Brisbane.

Feather it is then.
By teeth, I'm thinking vertical spinner running parallell to the front, & with the blade teeth bent forwards. Think baby Sarlac Pit.
Unfortunately since I have a large number of other commitments, I'm thinking I wont have anything operational for a while. Work just doesn't consider hobbies these days.
Also, my general understanding of assembly is rather limited. It'll take me time to sift through all the info I can collect.
I tend to be one of those ppl that goes "hey, that looks fun, I'm gonna do that! Um... ok, this bit goes here, and that goes there, and um... what's this bit? Meh! I don't need it" This is often followed by some sort of kaboom...

Hmmm... realistically... I may need assistance with this... Oh well. I wont know until I finally get around to trying to assemble something Smile

Keep your eye out for when we get together. We will all be happy to show you our robots and how we solved various issues.

There is nothing wrong with building slowly. This is suppose to be fun after all.

Slowly is good. Knowing where to actually start would also be good. I'll be honest, my exp is limited to RC cars. OLD RC cars.
I can easily assemble something that would work, but it wouldn't necessarily work well, or within any proper guidlines. A lot of the stuff in the wikki goes over my noggin. I was looking on the Robot Marketplace site, and at some of the kits there, and I could probably assemble something like them with out too much of a hitch, but when it comes to fine tuning anything, i'd probably have more luck eating runny yogurt with a pickaxe. Confused
Are there any builders/teams in inner north bris? Toombul type area?

Um... Sorry if I'm being a pest, but would anyone happen to know when people from in/near Brisbane will next be getting together? Unfortunately, while I tend to be rather patient in the time between starting & finishing a project, I’ve never been good at waiting to actually get started.
I also tend to be one of those people that learns by seeing, and actually doing (made the whole “don’t play with matches” thing rather interesting), so while I can sit & read as much material as I can find on assembly, gears, bits & pieces, until I actually SEE what’s what, and where it’s generally meant to go, it all just sits in my head in a jumble.

How the weekend after next. We'll be busy on the 26th, so does the 27th sound alright to people?
It'll be our first meeting as a club.

ahhh gotta love a good long weekend!
I'm mostly certain that I'm all free to do stuff that weekend (as I am MOST weekends...). I guess the only other question from me, is where?

Marauder is still at the welders so I will have to see what happens. What time would you be thinking? If I can come, afternoon would suit me better than morning.
