heyy all its Mark D here been ages but i finally got most of ma new bot built:) hopefully no more set backs hahah, only prob i have now is wheels im in despreate need of 2x those polyurathane or wotever they are called wheels, and also advice on suitable 24v drive motors to suit the wheels any and all advice on where and how and price is greatly appreciated.

lol well that was my original all ally crap-bot but yer it did have a flipper lol still into pneumatics but have upgraded to festo valves and a paintabll canister . since some one else is using cerberus now i am still in the process of makin up a new name.

Have a look at the Market Place and Anderson Combat Wheels, You will most probably find the wheel you want there if not custom one can be made

For 24V drive motors, The popular choices are usually 100W scooter motors (that come with their own wheels from Oatley Electronics), or DeWalt Drill motors. The Scooter motors are much cheaper, while the Dewalts have far greater pushing power. You can also look at various 18V generic drill motors but they are likely to break far more often than the other choices.

ty for the posts, i was thinking bout drill motors like the xu1s are they still beeing used and if there is a 18v version can it be over volted to 24?? or evren a 24v version?prob i am facing is a 24 v nickle metal hydride pack that cost me a motsa but runs forever, so i was hoping to run either 2 24v motors or 2 18v over volted from the one batt pack....wot do u think the wisest choice would be??

I don't thing they have 18V XU1 drills any more - Dick Smith might have something, or just check out Bunnings / Kmart / supacheap for something similar. For the cost of two 18V drills, you can get two scooter motors:

For a short while DSE had those 18v drills for $20, they're now discontinued and almost impossible to find at their original $30 cost.
They had pretty shocking motors that wouldn't so much burn out as have the comutator explode, but the gearboxes were solid.
Nick's right regarding the scooter motors, however they are also *alot* larger and heavier than drills, so it might not fit into your design.
I can't actualy think of an 18v drill that can be had for under $30 these days? Both DSE and Bunnings phased most of their cheapies out.

DSE 18v are still avalible online now atleast but im not sure about the postage

yeha scooter drives r funky, fast and efficient

Maybe look into banebots gearmotors, they seem pretty solid and upto the task, the shaft is keyed so yoru gonna either have to trabntorque the wheel to the shaft or get a keyed hub made up.

Also support other end with a bearing block and itll take alot of shock abd abuse, for featherweights i think the 40mm size gearmotors with about 25:1 reduction

Nick uses the 36mm ones i think which r borderline too small but hes done some cool mods to make his reliable

True, since I modded the 36mm motors, I have not broken one all last year. The 42mm version is even stronger if you can spare the extra weight. Jake & Russel can probably include the keyed hub straight into their wheels if you ask. In the long run, getting a motor & gearbox that will last is cheaper than buying many disposable drills.

also i just had a look at the bane bots and i think the one u are talking about is the 12v 42mm 27:1 right?? if i buy 2 of those wont they still both get fried if im using a 24v bat back??

Yes you're right, banebots burn up at anything much over 12v, that's why you use those haut pink motors remember Nick?
I don't think it would be at all easy to source a replacement 18v motor also.

I run the 12V motors at 18 and 22V by rate limiting their speed in the radio. That means that even though they get the full voltage, the radio only sends them 50 to 70% of full speed and the end result is that they act like they are running a lower voltage. Its not as good as having a 24V motor, but it works well enough. Glen and many US builder s have used the same technique successfully.
