Post Robowars Sydney Report

So as was expected, the best performing robot was the one made in 4hrs.

WedgeBot was utterly flawless. Never missed a beat and just needed recharging. Only damage it took was the cracked bit of cutting board for its lifter and a single broken zip tie.

FYI this robot is running drill motors from e-replacement parts. Was using redwheels on 5S A123s. It was also using 30A controllers too, not 85as. These are quite old A123s so could be that they were limiting the current to the motors which kept them from breaking but with red wheels and poor mounting they have never been a problem.

The main issue with wedgebot is that it isn't invertible and doesn't self right. There is only fourchanges I would consider to it.
- Making it self right by chopping the cutting board a little.
- Rearranging wire and batteries so they aren't piled on top
- Cutting away the plastic which is rubbing on the tires
- I have some ideas to make a hook/wedge bit.

Flying V is essentially undamaged but its had a hard life and I think it is done. It needs a rehash with a proper CAD'd shell and proper buffer tank. It had clearance issues as the whole entire robot bent in half and leaked like.... <insert inappropriate analogy here>

Might see it done might not. Its hard to say. Will see where my musing take me.

DoolSaw didn't do great but TBH I am really not that disappointed. It drove nicely if a little slow, was reliable (hell I didn't open the insides all of the second day) and was relatively indestructible. Only damage was my belts disintegrating or getting cut as the blades weren't properly supported and my rod getting bent. I think FarmBoy may have also bent one of my spikes up about 3-5mm but considering it was rammed into the wall rather hard and its only 3mm unsupported steel I am not really too worried about the strength of the rest of the chassis.

So not sure what to do with it. Main issue with it is the actuated arm. Its cool but it really makes it so complex and fragile. I am thinking for the short term best fix will be to just put a length of 10mm ali bar in that spot. and remove the actuator. Then add bigger wheels so that it drives inverted. Motors appear fine. I think they are big enough but am not too sure about the TZ85as on them I appeared to fry one when it stalled and the 50A blew too. So really sure whats going on there.

I also really need to work out how to do my wiring better because its currently a mess. And I need to replace my printed mounts with new ones with highest infill and a strip of ali on the top. Other than that they work perfectly I will be using them in all my bots now. But they really only work as support they don't have the strength to take the impacts when they are held by two bolts like 70mm apart. Which realistically is asking too much of 3D printing. But add a Ali plate on top of them and they will be great and easy to make. I don't deny HDPE is better but its just so easy.

Final question for DoolSaw is whether it should remain DoolSaw or just a normal spinner..... Time shall tell.

My Work Area Wow, just wow. I am currently sitting in my squalor writing this with the intention of cleaning it up. Its not really that bad. Just so much robot everywhere.... Gunna take me a few days to get it back to something reasonable.

thanks again steve for putting wedge bot together and letting me drive him.
he does have a few ground clearance issues, and after my second fight with hunchback they got worse and it drove best when the arm was at its lowest and the ally ran on the ground.(im not complaining at all just giving you the heads up Very Happy )

How wide? I have 40mm clearance and it will need 2 pulleys on either side.
