So robots are unpacked and charging.

I did some testing on the R134a and butane pressures. I was down to the last of my gas in the r134a cylider but still had about 40psi in there and I remember seeing about 60psi in testing. I then hooked up a butane one and tested it out. Unfortunately butane only gives me 25psi which makes it completely useless for current design as it will be even weaker. So might stick with r134a gas for the moment. One can @ $20 each isn't too bad for an event. Its maybe a little more expensive than hiring CO2 cylinder but for me its just easier.

Sky turtle will not really be changed. Everything works so leaving it as is. Few things need to be fixed. The wheels are pretty buggered. Will need to put in RMP order again for more Colsons and hit up glen for some hubs. I also need to fix up the shell mounting and height a bit, after I replace the wheels. I am also considering replacing the two casters at the back with a single wheel which is inline. This will help driving straight and if its a hard material shouldn't be too hard to skid on it. Only other thing which I need to fix up a bit is the mounting connection to the bottle but that works just isn't as robust as it could be.

Similarly wedgeBot will remain pretty much unchanged. Sabertooth has been removed. I have another set of Tz85as which I ordered ages ago and forgotten about on the way as they are finally back in stock. Woot. The wedge will be replaced with 3mm steel and a more substantial mount. Might tweak the ground clearance a little more and swap out the motors.

I have plenty of parts lying around to make another bot. Thinking I will collect parts to build another flipper using the same gas style which will eventually replace turtle robot. Would basically be a spinner proof (hopefully) version which could take on demon or scissorhands but we will see how this goes for a start. Wegbebot may also get a drive upgrade to 4wd wedge with drills and colson hubs or I might do something completely different. These aren't going to happen by next event and I will build them as separate bots but will only run one at a time. Gary style.

With 1 or 2 days work and the parts I need NakedTurtle and wEdgeBot should be back and ready to roll.

Steve

Have you looked at using propane? I have seen it used in paintball gear for a few years now. Pure propane has a vaporisation pressure of almost 7bar at room temp.

Propane 140psi @ 25C more than both of them. Will have to look at the propane torch cylinders at bunnings.

Considered using just a 12V compressor onboard in the robot with your small buffer? Seemed to work fairly good in Ballistic in the days and you've then got a limitless supply of 100psi air.

Compressor is definately a cheaper option. Might work pretty well. Could do a brushless mod on it give it more speed and pressure.

So no sign of tz85as yet. However I did buy plastic for 3D printer so hopefully will see that soon.

Naked Turtle Update.

So now has new wheels. Got a pair of Colsons on there now. they give me more ground clearance and a bit more grip. Old Banebots wheels were torn to shreds.

It drove better with these wheels but not as well as I had expected. What was happening was that the two rollers on the back plus one of the wheels was basically lift one of the wheels off the ground. So I removed them and just let it skid and it drives even better.

Not tested with the shell yet but I am thinking it will be much better. Also I have made a few tweaks to the ESC code which I will upload before next round which should improve the controllability. (Miles and Jules I can upgrade yours again if you want) Its nothing big but helps with having to controller.
