note that the M7 is electronic tolling only.
if your car doesn't have a tag you will have to ring up and pay that way (about $10 per day you want to use it i think but its about the same as the toll anyway so no great loss ;->)

Here's what i mean




Basically you go straight ahead and follow the signs that say westlink m7 and all the toll signs.

Then I'd get off here at Richmond rd. Turn right onto Richmond Rd (not left thats toward Shalvey) then left at the big round about at Quakers Hill Pkwy, then first right onto Tallagandra



Incredibly simple with the M7. Without it you have to get off at the Liverpool exit of the Hume hwy, Follow that till it you turn left onto the Cumberland Hwy after going through Liverpool. Then I don't know then the M4, get off at Rooty Hill road at the crazy interchange. Follow that along till it hits Richmond Road and then Tallagandra.... hmm. I know which one I'd do for the $3-4 or whatever it is.

hey, this is for all interstate peeps staying at my place

we got 4 beds all washed ready for when yall arrive (ill be crashing on the couch as ill prob be up late getting odds and ends done anyway) but last count there were 5 or 6 staying here so......

being the incredibly cold winter it is id suggest bringing your own blanket or what have u if your crashing on the floor/couch as we do have some stuff but yeah a simple sleeping bag may be needed

so yeah just giving you guys a heads up as its been freaking cold lately and neweyn if u could lemme know rough guestimate on when you are arriving friday evening and could u PM me your mobile number in case something comes up etc

In Melbourne we can buy day passes for tollways at shell servo's, is this the same in Sydney?

Andrew, we're talking about leaving my place at 9am, it's about a 10 hour drive plus breaks so someware around 7 - 10pm we'll be there.

Nope, no day passes, neat idea that.
They're all electronic (almost all anyway) so you just have your E-tag or equivalent and shoot through at a casual 110km/h

Actually it looks like people have got their crap together and you can use a tag from melb (if you have one rather than the number plate thing apparently).

@angus, the toll ways in melb are all electronic too. They just don't bother with the tag. Its all number plate based as i recall. (that and all the toll points on the M7 are < 80kph.)

Hmm that all seams a little limiting.

In Melb we have a couple of different ways to travel on toll roads.

-1- get an Etag (only for frequent users)

-2- get a casual account with the company that reads your numberplate.

-3- Pay for a day pass either at a shell servo or by ringing them up, it appears that you need a credit card to get a casual account with M7.

Anyways I'll give them a call tomorrow.

Ok one thing I like about the Sydney toll roads is that the call centre is open at 945 at night. we need a credit card and no other options, but hey it's still the best way to get around sydney.

Do you need to worry about this thing if you drive from the airport.
We don't have anything like this up here.

out to jeffs from the airport you will probably be ok.

you can go M5 tunnel (no toll) > homebush bay drive (no toll) > M4 ($2.20 paid in cash) > backstreets a little. (if you have a map your fine)

Its doable from the airport without paying tolls. Pain in the ass but doable. I'd only consider bypassing the tolls if its outside peak travel times. IMO 7-10am 3-6pm.

If you dont want to pay the M4 toll, just get off at Silverwater road, onto Parramatta road. till parramatta then back on m4 at church st. But hey as long as you get there it doesnt matter.

After driving through both your major cities I'd rate Melb 1st, Bris 2nd and Syd 3rd. Hell i've been to tokyo and traffic seems better than sydney. It can be quite horrendous.

If I was arriving by plane then I'd consider the trains, but then there's the luggage problem. Everybody has there own method of getting to and from the airport. Ask 10 people get 13 different answers.
