I still havn't heard from the Ideas Festival organisers but I do now have a quote for a $20M public liability insurance cover. Anyone got $1000? And that cover will not allow flame throwers at the event.
More news to come.... _________________ Get Some!!!

I just noticed something from the insurance quote I got:
ENDORSEMENTS:
Sexual Assault and Molestation Exclusion applies.
Excluding loss or damage to robots.
Excluding claims arising from fireworks and/or pyrotechnics BUT NOT fire.
Excluding liability of contractors and sub-contractors unless agreed.
Excluding injury to persons participating in sporting or novelty events
unless agreed.
Excluding hold harmless agreements or liability assumed under contract or
agreements unless agreed. _________________ Get Some!!!

I'm happy to fork out the 1k up front, so long as it comes back when you get paid.

Go the retread pic.
What they specifically stated in the insurance policy that flame thrower robots were not allowed?
That endorsement about damage to robots to me says that you can claim on damage sustained to your bot. I assume they mean accidental damage. Like if a tree fell on your robot kind of thing.

The Ideas Festival will be paying for the insurance whether it is under my name or theirs. I only put the price up for those who are interested.
When the policy states that it excludes all damage to robots it means just that. No robots will be covered under the policy whether in the arena or not.
Since flame throwers would be classed as a form of pyrotechnics then any damage to property or injury caused by them will not be covered therefor they will not be allowed at the event. Don't try to find loopholes because lawyers have been doing that for years. _________________ Get Some!!!

Are they deciding if they want a robot event there at all, or are you just negotiating the price at this stage? _________________ Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world; indeed, it's the only thing that ever has.

Saying a flame thrower is therefore a pyrotechnic is like saying a spinning bar is a propellor, and aircraft won't be covered. Wouldn't it fit into the BUT NOT fire category. Or does this mean the building its in burns to the ground? What if the buidling burns to the ground because of an electrical fire from one of the robots? I just can't see how they can be so selective of one type of possible risk when we are talking about circular saws and other risks that are of a similar danger.
In the end the EO can do whatever the hell they like, I'm just interested for any possible activities NSWRFC may look at in the future.
