Laughing It even worked for a bit after orbit tore into it! Laughing
Nah I just found that there was a fair bit of resistance on the rotation of sm's blade, much less compared to orbit. Maybe it was simply too tight a fit.

Too tight a fit might have been a problem, or the grease was too thick. If you recall the bronze bearing on Slash, it would spin for ages with just the weight of thesmall Ti blade to keep it going - I used a really thin oil on that and lapped the bearing until it was a smooth fit.

If you want low friction ball bearings, the ones with dust-proof shields are not for you - they can be quite stiff. bearings with semi-shielded sides might be better if you use a dry lube that doesn't pick up dirt so much.

nah I'll be right with bushings. If relic uses them they'll do fine. Very Happy
Plus they're cheap.

Still running the $2.50 ball bearings in Vertical Limits (After 2 years), and you've seen the Devastator flip, disc first impact Very Happy They are the sealed type and spin great. Best thing to do is open the dust cover (blue plastic piece) take the grease out and add a little bit of oil... That's it.

IMHO, bushings require too much maintenance to keep them running properly.

i agree wrt to the bearings, the bushings in visceral bored themselves out presumably due to something on the shaft and it rattled around after a while, the sealed bearings work great, maintainance free too Surprised

i think youll find if you ask many american teams that they replace bushings on a fairly regular occasion.

So that was the "Uber good pulley blade thing that this whole robot cannot exist without" part? You were whinging about not having that Laughing A Nick & Jake effort in just a few hours would have made you one...

Delirium - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delirium - is a medical condition, I think your robot will have this Wink

Delerium is a techno duo, http://www.rhapsody.com/delerium/more.html which is why I suggested the name to you Cool

A nick and Jake effort yes, but it's 7075, was already made, plus I remember Jake saying he didn't want to do V belt pulleys for some reason, maybe that was U belts.
Anyways, it's here now.
Oh also, I thought they were one and the same thing, no doubt this robot will behave like that. Laughing

How are you going to go with blade flex and clearance of the belt and blade?

It's a disk, i'm hoping it won't flex that much! Shocked
However if it does, i'll just have to cope. 10mm bis 500 should be pretty sturdy though.
EDIT also sm had that much clearance between the disk and belt, same with orbit. No problems thus far.

To be fair, it looks like a full day's work to make that Laughing! I am a bit doubtful about two things: The pulley only seems to be held on by two screws that couldn't be bigger than 3/8", while the bearing seems a bit small for something with a 1" ID. I'm not saying it won't work, but I would have gone with more bolts and a larger bearing for the size disk you are planning. I guess that's why I am "team Overkill"...

Jake probably looked at the geometry of a V belt and figured it was a pain to get it right. IMHO close enough is good enough for belts as they squish to fit.

The ID is indeed 1", just tried it on the 1" shaft! Shocked
Regarding the bolts holding the blade on, they are a touch small, i'm sure drilling two more and tapping those wouldn't be that difficult? Smile The idea is they shouldn't shear from side forces anyway because of the aluminium holding the blade in place.
EDIT: ah i see what you mean Nick. There's two bearings, spaced apart from each other. So I think it will work fine, it's a very clean and tight fit over the shaft and very little room for a cantilever effect to happen.
