Monkeylord I
My first "robot" Monkeylord mkI:
To think, this bot started life as just a metal box. Yet to blossum into...
...Oh, wait
Well, had to start somewhere. About a million things wrong with it, and I think I'll pretty much start again for my next machine to fit in new motors and advanced wheels. Really was but a quicky job. It didn't shame me during Saturday's meet by dying or catching fire or the like, so I guess I can't complain. That'll do pig, that'll do.

This is the pneumatics
site
we were talking about yesterday. Work on achieving half of the calculated height above flipper tip due to friction loss.
In my opinion, you should start from the outcome you want, for example a 3 m throw (use 6 m to allow for friction loss), and then work backwards to find out what you need to achieve the desired outcome. Later you can compromise to a more balanced robot.
You can find the cylinder specifications
here
. products>paintball
Here
is the Burkert 5404 specification pdf. You can find the flow rates for the 1/2" valve at the top of page 3. This is very important for your system design.
The valve should be powered a 1.5 times the standard voltage.
You can hire a DE cylinder from BOC either dayly or yearly. It was $33 for three months about 5 years ago. Refilling was about the same price.
Glen or Assassin should be able to help you build a ram if you choose to go high pressure. _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

Hi folks, been a while. Monkeylord 2 is getting close to finished, though plenty more work needed. Stuff still needs to be trimmed and welded and armor attached.
Have learned a lot building this machine. The sprockets were made from scratch and run bicycle chain. Had a lot of fun learning how to tension those correctly. Not.
Initially used steel hubs to mount red wheels onto the axles and sprockets. That worked okay, but is a bit heavy. Stapling lengths of bicycle inner-tubing around the red wheels seems to improve their lifespan somewhat.
The motors are the 18v 775s I got from ozito. I'm running each pair with a single tz85. So far during testing the ESCs have have started to get rather hot, even when i'm not pushing them too hard. Thoughts? I'm also planning on moving to 5s lipos for that extra hit of sweet sweet speed.
The new wheels are sand-cast aluminum (the first practical thing our little home smelting operation has managed to produce). After working them down on the lathe I think they turned out really nice. Drilled some holes in to reduce weight. They have ended up weighing not much more than the red wheels, but should be more sturdy. Silicon sealant with cornstarch mixed in has been used for the wheel surface. Its nicely grippy and
seems to be
quite durable. Only the fiery crucible of combat will tell I guess. All considered, the wheels have taken probably more time than everything else together

Oh also got these for a steal. They are from the planetary gearbox in a truck I believe. Product code is there, but havent looked them up yet. Seem to have double roller bearings. Future spinners perhaps? They tough enough and run smoothly.

Those castings looks great! Any chance of a basic tutorial on it? Have tons of aluminium swarf i wouldn't mind melting down for later _________________ www.demon50s.com - Minimoto parts

Hmmm 5S plus 2 775, plus the drag from that chain drive plus the friction from turning with 6 wheels. Your probably not too far of 50A with just heavy driving in my opinion. Got a current meter to fit to the boy? _________________ Steven Martin

Very nice work. Love the smelted wheels, and with the single driven wheel at the front and the chain driven dual wheels it looks like one of the vehicles out of Thunderbirds _________________ Jamie
