The Mini EVs are cheap, but the RMP mentions that stocks are limited and they are not being replaced. They are also much lower power than a DeWalt, or a fan motor for that matter.
I'm not sure I understand the comment about Dewalts not being big on speed - they have a no-load speed of 22K, while the Mags have a 6K rpm. If you mount the motors horizontally and use a flange a the driven surface, you can have a small diameter drive wheel and achieve a huge reduction ratio IE a 20mm friction wheel would be about 20:380 or 1:19 reduction ( I picked 380mm as the middle of the flange, it might be different). The motors will never reach their no load speed but might do around 18K, so a 20mm drive wheel would reduce the ring speed to under 1,000 rpm. going on that, I think 30mm drive wheels on a pair of Dewalts would be a great starting point. You could go a bit bigger on the drive wheel for more speed, but that also means more stress on the motors and ring mounts.
If you used a mag motor, the biggest drive wheel you can use is around 70mm giving a reduction of around 1:5.4. you would get about 5K rpm from the Mag, giving a ring speed under 1K rpm. You won't get more speed than that without a larger drive wheel or a smaller diameter ring. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion
