Robot Serial Killers - Serial Space Sunday 14/8/11
No turning back now!
This is the official page for NSW's first ever public event, held at Serial Space.
You can register through the pozible page. This is a bit of an experiment but using a system like this handles all the money and keeps it clean in case things go 'horribly wrong' There WILL be an event regardless of the outcome on pozible, it will simply determine the awesomeness factor!

This event is for Antweights and Beetleweights, held in a round robin format with single elim finals (most wins and most points go to finals) as per the NSW system.
The robots will be fighting in a 2.4 x 2.4 arena due to start construction on Monday. More details for that very shortly.
Spread the word!
Serial Space Event Details:
1st draft.

Serial space will host the following combat robot classes:

Beetleweight – 1.36kg - Flamethrowers not allowed in this class.

1st 2nd and 3rd place, Beetleweight class

Epic Fail, Beetleweight

Crowd's Choice
Entry Procedure:
All robots must go through weigh-in/safety check before the competition:
Robot put together ready to go, and put on scales.
Robot then put directly into antweight arena for testing, robot must demonstrate ability to drive in a controlled manner.
Failsafe testing: Weapon fired up then controller turned off, antweight and beetleweight drive motors are allowed to twitch/drift slightly but all active weapons must FAILSAFE.
Rounds:
Rounds will take place at set times during the day, rounds can be juggled slightly to accommodate for builders struggling to get ready in time, however if there is no more time available it is counted as a forfeit (unless they had opted to skip the round).
Winners get 3 points, losers 1 and forfeit 0. Four highest scoring robots go through to the finals. As per past robowars and ideas fest events.
Weight checks will take place before the single elimination finals.
Judging:
Counting out: A robot which loses its ability to demonstrate controlled movement will be given 10 seconds to regain control or be counted out. Under 10 seconds of the end of a match no robot can be counted out due to insufficient time (in theory, a robot could explode within the last 10 seconds of a match and not be counted out, however this would obviously affect a judges decision!)
A builder can tap out at any time, but must make it obvious (loudly!) to their opponent to avoid accidental destruction.
Judges decision calls definitively the winner and loser for a given match if both robots are still moving.
Safety:
It is up to every builder to safely charge their lipoly batteries, this includes charging on some kind of non flammable surface and in plain view. A metallic bucket with sand will be available within quick reach of the arena and pits table, to safely contain any accidents and take them outdoors.
Robots with sharp or otherwise dangerous weapons are required to cover them up whilst out of the arena.
Robots will spinning weapons will require a lock of some kind to prevent spinning up accidentally in the pits. A vice-grip or screwdriver is sufficient as long as it does the job.
LIPO SAFETY:
As mentioned in charging all Lipo tech batteries must be safely charged. In battle should a lipo be compromised in any way the robot will instantly be transferred to a sand filled metal bucket and taken outdoors. Under NO circumstance can a builder fiddle with a robot whilst indoors, as this risks damage to the audience, arena and builder. Once safely outside the builder can deal with the problem.
