AntWeight Controller

Hi, I am in the early stages of looking at making a couple of antweight flipper bots for my son and myself but was just hoping to find out if they can be controlled with an RC Car type transmitter? I have several RC Car transmitters/receivers laying around but did not want to have to buy a couple of new $100-$200 transmitters. Shocked

If this is possible, could I get a push in the right direction. Thanks.

Definitely don't need $100+ transmitters.

Controlling with a car controller is possible, but to control two motors with tank steering you'll need channel mixing. Which I think most car transmitters won't do. So you'd want a v-tail mixer:

https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy-v-tail-mixer-ultra-small.html

But I don't think these fit real well in ants, and add extra weight. Almost everyone uses flying style transmitters with driving on one stick and weapon on the other. Two drive motors and a weapon needs 3 channels, which most car transmitters won't do. I've got one car transmitter that is 3ch, but the 3rd channel is a switch, which also isn't ideal for weapons.

Right now, this transmitter is crazy cheap, and stocked in aust:

You could get two, one for you and your son for less than $50. And you simply flip switches to do the mixing. But any of the turnigy or hobbyking transmitters on that site are fine, I use a TGY-i6 with no problems.

Geez, that transmitter is cheap. Even comes with a receiver thanks. I'd say that's just what I'm after.

Yeah, I'm thinking about getting a couple lol and that 4ch receiver should be nice and compact for ants.

Damn those look really cheap. Can anyone confirm the V-tail built in works?

And check that it's not the sketchy V-Tail where the rates are limited to 50%!

Yep built in V tail works

Seems to go to 100% in all directions - which makes steering a bit touchy

The gimbals are just like the spektrum on those too, surprisingly high quality for hobbyking gear.
