Do the calcs and see how big a battery you would need. I haven't but I think its ... ah prohibitively large.

About 9A. Should be able to get about 20 mins out of a 3Ah battery.

If you're wondering. Hydrogen Peroxide powered turbines are already been tought of and rejected.

Electromagnet clamping would be less effective for sportsman bots - many of them have plastic & aluminium armour.

A cheap and quick alternative for electromagnets (maybe less powerful though) are trailer brake magnets:
