Why it sucks to be a C-130...

I just saw this on the RFL forum and I wanted to show my brother, but we can't veiw Delphi forums at home.

quote:
We got this email at work:

Last week one of our planes flew into a US operated airfield in Iraq during the day and saw there was construction equipment on the runway. Yet there was no NOTAM (notice to airmen). A trench was being dug in the runway, and it was not marked.

It's a long runway and they just landed beyond the construction. They filed a safety hazard report that was immediately forwarded to our higher headquarters and to the Air Force wing based here.

Well, it seems the construction continued and still was not marked or NOTAMed or anything. A C-130 landed on the runway the night of the 29th and didn't see the construction. C-130 was totaled, several injuries to the crew and the few passengers but nobody was killed.

that's what I call US military standards.....

just like shooting down friendly heli's, bombing friendly forces, driving over sleeping troops with a tank, etc, etc..... Rolling Eyes

That is why whenever U.S. forces deploy overseas, including on traing exercises they expect at least 30% loses to friendly fire and 50% loses of equipment.

hey,

one thing i thought is that the reason the australian troops are still alive over there is that the american's DONT KNOW WHERE WE ARE.

there was one incident where a german patrol or something was injured and needing help and the australian troops popped out, fixed it and got them healed and safe then dissapeared into the desert.

Very similar to the dakoda trail soldiers in my opinion.
