Arena procedure nationals 2016

I wanted to review and remind everyone about the procedure for turning on robots and removing them from the arena this year.

Firstly:
- Any robots powered on in the pits will immediately be disqualified from the tournament.
- All robots should have wheels raised off ground at all times.
- All robots need locking pins for weapons
- All robots need power LEDs
- All robots need power switches/links that can be accessed without any removal of panels or screws.
- Robots must be fully powered down and weapon pins replaced before leaving the arena.

Again you may not power on your robots in the Pits. If you need to power on your robot come collect one of the officials and you will be allowed to use the arena. You must NOT leave the arena with a powered on robot

Secondly:
The procedure to load and power on robots will be changed this year. This is due to changes in the arena design. Robot A is the least dangerous robot Robot B is more dangerous as determined by the Robot officials.
- Robot A / B are placed on marshalling table near arena entrance. Prior to round.
- Robot A is weighed and then placed at entrance to the arena.
- *Note: a 300mm barrier will separate you and the robot. You should be able to activate your robot over this barrier.
- At no point in time do you enter the arena.
- Robot A drives to Corner A
- Repeat for Robot B.
- *Note: Robots may sit powered on in arena for 5-10min. Waiting powered on is not an excuse if you lose a round.

Thirdly:
- At no point in time is any builder permitted to enter the arena
- Entering the arena may result in disqualification. This is against the rules and a safety hazard.
- If a separation or unstick is required this will be done by officials.
- The arena has a lip of approximately 75mm from the barrier to walls. If a robot is caught on this or the internal barrier then this will be counted as a TKO.

How do we unload the bots at the end of a match, assuming one or all of them are not drivable?

Who removes and replaces the weapon locks and when?

A few questions:

- Regarding the wheels off the ground in the pits - one of my robots is designed to be opened/serviced upside down, which puts the wheels off the ground (ie it is not invertable). Does this meet this requirement without requiring a stand?

- Regarding no powering on in the pits - is it permissible to power on components separate from the robot (ie ESCs, motors not connected to drive/weapon) to test whether they are working?

- Regarding access to power switches - at Vivid Zenghiaro had a toggle switch which was readily accessible/visible but was held in either the on or off position by a finger tightened machine screw - ie this needed to be loosened to activate the switch but not to access it. I was planning on using the same system again, but does this fall afoul of this requirement?

Inverted is fine as long as wheels don't touch the ground.

Disconnected components is also fine. For wheels up testing will usually just give you the thumbs up to do it in pits but we can't have everyone just powering on shit.

Would need to have a picture. Generally the idea is to not need multiple tools or a lot of time to turn off robot in the event someone else other than you has to go into the arena to retrieve it. Its more the like you need to take out 3 bolts unscrew a panel then pull this lead sort of stuff.

Is flips going to be ok with all that? I'm worried about somebody who doesn't know it intimately getting their face broken, and it needs 2 tools and a removable link to shut down.

Thank for clarifying, that all makes sense and is what I figured, but wanted to be sure.

Picture of Zenghiaro's power switch from Vivid is here, was going to do the same again.

As always Jake there will be exceptions.

With flips removal I would prefer you to go in and remove the robot but this should be discussed in the safety inspections.

Really it's just trying to tighten everything up so we don't get anyone hurt. And to make the arena more off limits than it has been in the past. (It will make a bit more sense when you see the new setup Wink )
