Mate that ram looks like a lightsaber, good stuff! Always wanted to custom build a pneumatic system, but I have enjoyed watching the progress both Glen and yourself have made in recent times.

Unfuckingbelievable!

I picked up the frame parts and when I had a closer look at them in the workshop, I found that every single curve was turned into a straight line and all the holes are now an oversized octagon Evil or Very Mad. Some holes don't matter so much but most of the smaller ones are meant to be tapped to save weight - in short every part is scrap! They also lied to me about the process used, the steel is clearly laser cut.

The cutting business admitted their software is at fault but its too late to get the parts re-cut and that means no sportsman for Vivid - I am so pissed off after all this work!

If your are keen. Maybe try action laser in WA and setup a toll guaranteed overnight courier for tomorrow arv at 4pm. Give em a call and send em DXFs they should still be open with the time difference.

They were awesome and cheap for our heavyweight and faster than local waterjet.

I doubt they will have the Ti in stock but they should be able to do all the steel out of hardox asap.

Is also on 2pm so you have the next 2.5hrs to get it organized Wink

Also still worth putting together. Even if its overweight. Would be a really good shake down if you are going to run it for next few comps.

Thanks Steve. To be honest, I am too gutted and out of time to finish this for Sunday. There is a heap of welding to be done as well as all the wiring and fitting the pneumatics and I just don't think its possible to do it all in the time left.

I am going to take a break for a week or two and start over with a new supplier - maybe take up Aaron's suggestion about using an aluminium frame.

EDIT: I will probably weld the frame together just for practise. Its not the weight, its the oversized octagonal holes that can't be tapped. A few holes don't matter, and some more can have a nut, but quite a few are in spots where a nut won't fit.

Definitely asking for a refund or $297 and I want the cost of the material back as well! The guy I talked too was very embarrassed about the stuff-up but couldn't immediately agree to the refund. I am so pissed of that I might take them to the small claims court (or at least threaten to).

One useful thing to come out of this is that I can weigh all the parts. The sides are larger than they should be but not by much. The bad news is that the bot is still around 200 grams overweight - Rhinocad seriously underestimated the volume of some frame parts.

It might be easiest to use Steve's WA cutters and have everything done in 3mm Hardox; that way I can cut out more steel and still have a really strong frame. Other things to cut weight are going to 5mm aluminium or making the flipper arm from titanium.

Wow, that sucks, especially with all the work you've already put in. You haven't got another bot that fits the sportsman rules?

Remember when I floated the idea of running Scissorhands at 400 rpm? It really didn't go down well Sad

Currently looking at running Scissorhands with a 12" circular saw blade at 2,400 rpm. If I can find some working drive motors, I should be able to get it working and it will be well underweight.

Scissor hands with a saw would be cool.

OK, I will start working on it. Scissorhands hasn't been started up for almost two years, so I can't promise it will be ready just yet.

Back in the Game!

OK, Scissorhands with a saw could be a thing:

Many parts have been canabalised and all the motors are 'crunchy' but I think its possible to resurrect Scissorhands in time for the event. It looks pretty mean with that saw blade on the front Smile.

Back to the debacle:

I assembled the frame parts last night, time that would have been better spent getting drunk:

The parts fit well, apart from the tabs and slots being really loose. There are some holes that are out of position as well as being over-sized and octagonal, so the buffer tank won't mount on the frame.

The CAD is getting a make-over for weight reduction and when its done I will get a quote to cut the frame in Hardox.
