I just landed and am heading up to the NEC. I will try to meet up with the Robochallenge guys to help set up, if not I will have to find something touristy to do for a day.

Testing day:

There is quite a crowd of bots here for testing, way more than last year. Mr mangle and many of the other bots have aready tech checking and are just waiting for the Robochallenge guys to allow practice sessions.

There are the usual crowd of mature bots (most with upgrades) and some impressive new ones:

Matt's sure-fire winner:

Pendulum is at very well CNCed new spinner:

Rango has a new owner and now has brushless outrunner drive motors, its weapon seems to spin faster as well.

Surveyor is some of Mario's finest work:

Who owns pendulum? I remember a fairly young fellow showing me a photo of that in progress or something very similar on his phone but I never caught his name.

Good luck! Keep us posted. Having pretty bad withdrawals already lol!

Everyone is asking why you didn't come and wondering about next year.

I didn't catch his name and he wasn't wearing his badge, so nobody knows Confused Its the guy you are thinking of though.

Most of the bots have had a test drive - Mr Mangle is WAY faster and doesn't get caught on the tyre - I rammed it at speed several times. There is a whole new problem though - the pit has a slightly raised lip around it and several bots including Mr Mangle are getting caught under it.

Rough sex! Laughing In testing, it had it's beater set so close to the floor that it hit almost every floor seam and flipped itself. Some times it somersaulted and self-righted, other times it had to drive inverted to hit the arena wall and righting itself.

As it is 4WD, it can't use my trick of adjusting the beater clearance so its going to put on a crowd pleasing performance tomorrow. Apparently, it can drive with the front wheels removed and front supports fitted, but not so well.

After all the test driving sessions, I have compiled a strategy for most of the bots (often 'Run Away'!) - let's see if I can pull any of them off in the heat of battle Smile

As of 9 PM Wednesday, we still don't know all the bots competing or the qualifying draw, so tomorrow morning is going to be full of panic.

The draw has been made and is available on the Robo Challenge FB page. It's only taken three years but Drumroll is finally fighting Mr Mangle in a qualifier Smile

See you on Saturday for an epic battle!

Mr Mangle's qualifying matches are:

Q1 Friday 10am; I am in the first match of the day against the reigning champ
Explosion v Omega v Mr Mangle.

Q3 2 pm
Mr Mangle v The Unnamed v Hatchet

Q5 Saturday
Drumroll v Mr Mangle v Night Fury

I have NFI which bots are Omega and The Unnamed Confused I think The Unnamed is built by Mario, so its going to be tough.

The Unamed is 4bar lifter, the front pannel was welded by me. That's about it.

The other 4bar , a FP powered machine, Loki, has one of my weaponsetups.

Omega is the machine from Dennis and Stef.
A 4WD brushless hardox monster.

The smaller one is Otis, a Raptor class , one of Nebelwerfers playmates.

Now with Titanium armor. Smile

Thanks Mario, The Unnamed must not have arrived yet, I know all the other 4 bar lifters here. My draw is pretty good; no unbeatable flippers and only one dangerous spinner.

BTW: Loki is having all sorts of weapon retraction problems; we think it must be either the ram sticking or the cylinder not venting but nothing has fixed it yet.

Fair enough, he just came up and was talking about demon and such so thought he was someone i knew a long time ago lol, most trippy!

The retraction system is probably just a vent hole, maybe make sure it isn't plugged up otherwise maybe the piston has swelled if its plastic. Flips did the same just before the telstra event.

It could be the swelled piston - I noticed that the problem got a little better towards the end of Loki's test session - it retracts about 50% and stops, then a bump against the wall will make it retract some more.

Its 5am over here and I am lining up all the videos of Explosion to figure out how to beat it. Perhaps the best bet is to let the other bots get engaged first and then sneak in for the kill. The first two matches are perfect for the low ground clearance front forks but I don't want to have the same issues as Pendulum.
