I was mainly wondering how the hub is locked onto the drill shaft so that it doesn't unscrew when you reverse.

How did the 3D printed mounts hold up? After a proper beating from Bender and Mr Mangle, they still seem to be in good shape from what I can see.

@ phil….you cant see in that pic but its just a m3 tapped through the hub and one side of the drill into the void where the the backwards screw goes in. That m3 would have to sheer to allow the hub to unscrew

@ Nick... i only tested the printed hubs in Slinky... so the didn't get the full mangle treatment They are 775 magnums in kojack….that said i think they are all good….Tom had em in Hare aswell…so they are sportsman tested. Very Happy

I'll bet that was a struggle to get up to the shed! Did it come with any tooling? things like clamps, vice, cutters and collets can end up costing more than the mill.

Got the same mill.
The slides are low quality, the slack in the leadscrews is horrible, and if you start doing some heavy milling the head will turn on the round pillar.

On the other hand, it does the job for a very cheap price. You'll learn the quirks soon enough.

Hey guys thanks for the feedback-this one is a Taiwan made version so i dont know if that helps?

Our shed is made ontop of crappy concrete 50mm thick tiles with a bit of 1/4 inch reo in them- they are shit ones we made ourselves before we even made robots- should i rip out the tiles where this mill is going to sit- and dig down a bit and pour a propper 100mm base?

On the stand it looks to reach 190mm which is the same height as our shed so as long as i dont over wind it - it shouldnt peirce the roof tin- or do i dig down a bit and put in a drain?💥

Its handy to have room above the mill to open the top and change belts or tools. Can you just make the stand a bit shorter?

Hi nick- the head can move right down so i think that would be ok- im more asking does it need to be bolted to the floor?

With a decent stand and no heavy duty jobs, a rubber mat is enough to keep it from going walkies.

But, bolting the mill to a decent base is of course better. Idealy, cast iron. But thick wood will do too.
Mine is mounted on a workbench, with a rubber mat over 30mm of solid oregon pine.

What you could do is to glue a larger board to the tiles and use that to mount the base on. That avoids a lot of work, and spreads the load too.

OK, I meant that being able to change cutters while the mill head is up high is a plus. Because the column is round, if you have to lower the head to change cutters part way through a job you lose registration with the workpiece. That can be a major problem and has tripped me up a few times.

Adding to what Mario said, you don't need to bolt the mill to the floor but a solid base with no wobble is important. It should also be level if possible. If you can't get the base set up solidly, perhaps your idea to pour a mini concrete slab is worth the effort.
