Sportsmans yes, Feathers no.

This is meant to be the Australian Champs for the feathers and it should be seen as the premier competition in Australia hence the limited field. For 1st time builder the Sportsman class is the best way to get experience and get involved.

There is also more practical reasons for limiting the field to 16. At 16 robots we are reaching the limit of what can be done in the round robin format. I would like to keep this format as it means that people traveling from interstate get a minimum of 3 fights. We all know how disappointing double Elim can be.

I would also like a definite number of robots a few weeks out rather than 12hrs before. Ideally I would like to have the registration filled and several backup robots so we can guarantee that 16 robots will be operational on the day. This means we can plan a schedule weeks before hand so spectators and builders will have an idea of how the day will run.

As more than 50% of the registered robots do not exist or need serious work I don't doubt that we will have drop outs. So as a backup robot its still highly likely that you will get a spot. If not I am also happy to accommodate whiteboard fights and grudge matches in between rounds.

16 Featherweights is also equal to the largest Public event we have ever had (Robowars 3 or 5?) and 7 more than last year not including all the sportsmans. So I think filling it would be a good start then we actually worry about what to do with any extras. I know there is at least 5 (Ben, Tim, Scott, Phillip, Andrew) regulars without an entry so we shall see what happens.

I started putting my sportman Aussie Battler together yesterday. Hope to have it finished within weeks for a picture and then registration.

Are the shirts optional or mandatory?

@ Marto, that seems fair. I was simply worried some builders may miss out but play it by ear and see how we go closer to. Upside is i can maybe get a second sportsman done. Ill probably patch up old warning in some form and try and bring it for a backup bot/rumble bot or something

Tied up doing family crap with brother from america until 24th then systems go.

Worst case ill mod warning and give it a a kid to play with.

It's possible, but not guaranteed. If I do make an attempt at getting in the game, I'll aim to run both robots.

Shirts are included with Featherweight registration. Sportsman entries don't include one.

Rego is full. Stay tuned for update on how additional registrants will be handled.

When will buildersdb be updated to reflect this?

Its not full again. So I left it for now.

Have a few ideas. Just need to make sure its as fair as possible. But if you had seen my prelim schedule already pretty tight on time. Also I reckon you will not have more than 16 actually show up on the day. Even if more are registered.

Once again registration has filled up.

I have opened up to 20 spots on the builders db. The only way to incorporate this will be to have a qualifying round. Stay tuned for how this will work. It probably won't be necessary as I doubt we will actually get more on the day.

IF we fill the 20. I will open up to 24 and change to a double elimination tournament.

So this is my first draft schedule. It gets all 16 robot 4 fights.

http://tinyurl.com/robowarsNatsSchedule

I was intending to start at 11am and go till 4pm as this allows time for the crowd to fill up and us a little time if we run behind. Obviously needs to be redone to accommodate the extra bots but as you can see I have already pushed this both ways more than a little.

I intend to narrow down the field to 16 after first round but still tying down exactly how to do this.

Nick will help you narrow the field.
