Hi Everyone new here, first post I have done a fair amount of reading and started the build on my bot after seeing and meeting a few of you guys and gals at the Nationals in Ipswich recently Great Show BTW got my interest anyway
Here is what I have so far, I followed a link to the tutorials and this is what I have come up with, this will be a template for the latter metal bot.
the wheels will be enclosed from the sides. However the design brief is that it can run both right side up and upside down 4mm clear either side.
So far it's just a couple of Ozito 12v drill motors/boxes from Bunnings, Breadboard and red wheels as advised.
Planning on using a pair of tz85a's, and this list of items
Just looking to build something simple to start with, I like the look of Roadkill ( the little orange bot if I'm correct ) so hoping to emulate that bot to some extent.
Not sure how to post images correctly so if there is a link to a "How to" please feel free to point me to it.
Thanks to Miles&Jules for their time and the Wheel mounts Cheers!
It may be a slow build but I'll get there, may be asking a few questions yet before I order all the gear I need as I like to get it right the first time ( component wise that is ) as I'm not sure weather to go for the HK Transmitter listed above or the "Orange 6 channel" I've read about. Does the Rino 610mAh Lipo ( as above ) fit in the Orange 6 Channel?
Cheers Tim

Looks like a very good way to start, Tim.
Just click and paste the IMG link on the Photobucket page.

It's much better then the cheap HK T6A and has a lot more features that will help you keep your sanity later on in robot life _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

Also kudos for using whole words in a first forum post.
starting with the breadboard is a great way to get the hang of things. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Excellent Valen, that battery sounds like what I need, compared to the Rino 610mAh it is bigger Physically ( and capacity ) but will do the job and the travel case wouldn't hurt for transport reasons good idea to protect an investment. Also scored another 7mm cutting board today ( metal chassis/body will be 6mm ) so my prototype should have a top/bottom, nice invertible bot. Will have to nail down a set order list from HK, however getting there, still a long way to go yet . Cheers

Cool will keep that in mind HK just emailed me they claim that the ZIPPY Compact 850mAh 2S 25C Lipo Pack (AUS Warehouse) - PRODUCT ID: ZC.850.2S.25 will work I'm pretty sure that's the same one Valen mentioned
check what comes with your charger, they generally come with a buttload of adaptors.
Also if you can get a charger with 240V input, it'll just make life easier. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! Hey M&J Well I wanted to see the Red wheels turn at least while I get my HK order sorted, so I hooked the drill motors up to a Arduino Uno & http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Dual-H-Bridge-DC-Stepper-Motor-Drive-Controller-Board-Module-Arduino-L298N-JT1-/400603102349?pt=AU_B_I_Electrical_Test_Equipment&hash=item5d45ce3c8d 3A max 2A continues current and 12V9.2AH/20HR SLA Battery, which usually runs these motors http://www.jaycar.com.au/productView.asp?ID=YG2738 on another bot I have ( the code used for the test = 3000ms FWD then 3000ms REV then 3000ms Left spin then 3000ms Right spin the code then repeats in a never ending loop. Using the Jaycar motors the Dual H-Bridge gets warm ( say after 10mins or so ) However when running the drill motors after just 1 & 1/2 - 2min max the Dual H-bridge was VERY VERY! hot. Not only that but the thing would barely pull the skin off custard hence the need for the Tz85a's ( and the large heat sink ) I assume, so using the Lipo battery sighted earlier in this thread being 12V2.65A what "generally" is the running current of the Tz85a's on a bot? and the drills? after a 3 minute round they must be quite hot?

Yep a hardcore speed controller is the key….thats why botbits sell stacks of em….i don't know what drills draw in amps ,but it must be a lot for both drills to explode on 24v and the tz85 just keeps on going …that said the tz's don't like jammed winch motors _________________ Miles Blow - Julie Pitts

Got my HK order sorted for what I wanted some of it had to come from the International Warehouse so all of it did. Now to play the waiting game anyone know how long "in general" it takes for an order to come from HK's International Warehouse? approx 4kg if that makes any difference? mostly a few extra Lipo's and how does that affect the custom's situation? will it slow it down? Now to keep playing with FreeCad & 123D Design and order some more stuff FWIW 2kg of that weight is the TX and it's case With 2.5kg's of Motor's & Breadboard I'm starting to understand how quickly one could get to the 13.6kg mark.
