Yeah good work Nick, best to try and put your grief into the work.

Workshop developments sounds cool (if only we lived closer he he)...I have a sneaking suspicion that your robowars hacker space will actually make a bunch of cool robotics projects, rather than just collect junk and talk about myth busters. he he

LOL, I am well aware of how certain hacker spaces fail to produce anything apart from dreams! Laughing Its probably going to evolve organically and with a council involved, its always going to take longer than expected.

As far as the event goes, I will try to be there - I have quite a bit of family in town until the 19th, but I will try to engineer some time off.

So sorry to hear of your loss Nick but great to see you back on your feet with such enthusiasm Smile

Knowing your level of engineering I'm sure you'll have no trouble creating time off Razz

Went to the first event of the year & had a great time. Watching Catastrophe throwing Roadkill right out of the arena was most entertaining!

Just when things were returning to normal, some ass-wipe ran over Gizmo, my favourite cat! Shocked He was on the critical list but has now stabilised - I really couldn't cope with another loss. My policy is that when you are down, its time to fight back even harder, so I'm going out to the workshop to make stuff, then I'm getting good 'n drunk!

After long missing this forum, I just read the last 30 pages of this amasing thread!

I can't say how sorry I am for your loss and how inspiring is your positive attitude to fight back. Keep building! Keep Fighting! That is the way!

You are definitely one of the best builders and nicest person I've met in this sport/hobby.

Hope Gizmo has a speedy recovery!

Thanks Eduardo, I just noticed that the build log has reached 300 pages, so you still have 90% left to read Laughing Gizmo is making a miracle recovery, but still has concussion that might leave him with slight brain damage, I won't know for several weeks yet.

Progress

Fantastic news: the council finally approved cutting down the tree where my new workshop will be! I have people quoting me on Monday and the work should start in a week or two Smile. There is plenty of work apart from just erecting a shed so its going to take at least two months but at least I can get started.

The new weapon shaft arrived and while it is a little heavier than the old one, it saves weight by eliminating the aluminium stiffener and four M12 screws:

The new shaft at the top has a much longer neck compared to the standard shaft at the bottom, placing the weapon bar further out from the frame.

I started looking at a more rugged cooling fan:

The fan blade and the motor both have 2mm shafts and its hard to see, but the fan shaft is pressed into a brass fitting. It should be possible to press out the fan shaft an then press the fan body over the motor, giving it perfect centering Smile.

looks like it should do some serious cooling!....Great news on the new shed! Very Happy

When we built our shed ....We had to chop down a massive tree(full of termites so we had no choice) the worst part was we had to get some excervation done and then we needed to get a stump grinder in first ....all that was a pain and expensive. And then digging the freaking storm water pipe from our back yard out to the street.....so they would sign off council approval.

....hope you dont have the same problems we did. Sad

I have to get the stump grinder in, level the area with a Bobcat, build a retaining wall, concrete the surrounding area and possibly run a new drain or two - its expensive but at least it will fix a bunch of problems and increase the property value (I hope!)

LOL, I only hope my shed goes that fast!

I got started today by demolishing the old car port:

Before it started raining I got the rest of the side panels down and cut up some of the beams and panels to fit in the van. The sabre saw paid for itself today, I really couldn't have done the job without it!

With the car port gone, We can get a crane in to help take down the massive gum tree and then start levelling the site.
