You guys probably noticed some of these fights are repeats from different camera angles.....thought we would put em all on .....just in case the action is better from certain camera positions he he

Well the past 2 nights/days I have slept for 12 and 13hrs. So I am now back somewhat recovered from the weekend.

So quick round up of my robots...
I think I had a very very large amount of failure.

1 - Budget Bot - Small fire - This was due to poor mounting leading to direct short which meant FETs caught fire. (Hacked BESCs have a tendency to catch fire when experiencing a direct short) So this should be considered when mounting.

2 - Flying V - Gas leak Central. I think I barely got 2 or 3 flips out of the thing. Worked quite well when it was running but this wasn't too often. Also didn't charge it all day and by the 3rd fight it just stood there. Too many bots I think. Wheels worked quite well but as I expected my mounting was not great. But I will definitely be using the Foamy + Prop adapter combo in the future.

3 - Naked turtle - Gas Leak + 3 Different wires coming loose. Hopefully glen gets my MEGA Pressor done soon so it can receive this. And then get a complete rewiring. It is a mess atm and this is really a big problem. Not sure I will modify too much else in it. Still a complete pig to drive due to wheel positions but I can deal with this.

I have to say printed parts are looking good for non-impact zones. I am tempted to print cases for mooting things inside my bot. As long as not exposed to heat and you have the layers in the right plane things look good.

The Event as a whole
I think the response we got from people was pretty good. Everyone seemed to like watching and the day as a whole was pretty relaxed. I think we will have quite a few people coming along to watch the nationals but I don't know if we will have any new builders.

I am not sure how well the format we ran worked. I felt that people really didn't want to wait 15min between each fight when one was disappointing so wandered off. I think we might have been better running 2 or 3 fights every 30min. So if one was a bit of a bust we had another to come up.

I also think we need a bit of a why you should build robots spiel. Flyers were good but I think they are encouraging people to come along and watch not compete. I think a 3min time lapse video on where the parts come from and someone throwing together a simple wedge from bunnings parts.

Anyway will be interesting to see what comes of it in the next few weeks. I am not sure well the website works for directing people to competing but tbh this is the most organised we have been in a long time.

Venue Setup
Tbh the 3x3 setup looked great when we started. The area we had was pretty well big enough. (Could have used a few more tables) The 3x3 arena really isn't too small for normal fights, and clear roof outside is seriously awesome.

Few notes. 100% Can not run MDF inside a sealed greenhouse. Exactly the same bending issues as we have had in the past. Need to screw it down. Also thin metal brackets around the edge need to be steel angle. Will get that done for next time.

Posters looked good and 0 people pointed out our septemper. Handed out around 300 flyers. I have about 200 + another 500 left so if anyone wants me to send them some let me know.

Questions

Would we be interested in doing something like this again?

How could we encourage people to actually build something?

How would people like to run the format? I sort of felt that we didn't really have any reason to fight each other. I would prefer to run some sort of competition even if we swap fights around?

What sort of static displays could we have to show people how to build something?

Would people be interested in building/maintaining "Display" bots? I think $2 coin operated for in between rounds would actually make us some cash and be very popular. (Will make enquiries about Sidetracked ones)

Yes we should do it again!!!..should see if riverlinks is interested?....could make it a regular thing that we run ....and yes we could just run it like our regular comps.

Yeah we could do up some demo how to vids (drill hacking etc) and just have them playing on a monitor like the other day.
Was very cool.
