Well The Edge hasn't got back to me about whether they are interested and unfortunately haven't heard anything from Red Bull despite their initial keenness. I could press a bit more but I don't really have any idea exactly what we want to do so I think we need to come up with that plan first.

So my current plan is to aim for a public event at the end of the year which we can call the "Robowars: Nationals 2011" how would everyone feel about this and it being in QLD? I am tempted to focus mostly on the larger robots feathers and maybe beeltes rather than the ants. Just simply from a promotional perspective people are much more interested in supporting/seeing something bigger.

To do this I really think we would need at least 20-30 feather sized robots. These days I don't even know if this is feasible we had maybe 15 at the edge and then we were still scraping a bit to run 2 days of comp. The difficulty with organising something like this is that we need to commit to putting on a good show. I don't want to make it all about the crowd or anything but if we don't have the bots then all we are going to do is disappoint the sponsors and spectators. So this results in chicken and egg problem need event to build robots for need robots for event.

We had 5 feathers at our last QRSC event which for the first one of the year I thought was a pretty good turn out. If we can double this to 10 or all the way to 15 by the end of the year I think we would be able to put on a pretty good event.

I would like to push and find sponsors and venues in order to do things like this but I am not sure if we really have the capability atm to do it properly.

Thoughts, interest, ect?

Hey Steve sounds epic! The hack cage is great, but the edge does add a certain flare to the whole deal. The robots just look so good out in the sun!!

Well we have a 3 mates/family members wanting to build robots..... have said they will build/are building...they are just slack......will be urging them to have a feather at the next event so that could be an extra 3 robots on top of our 2 !!!!....we will just have to add a bit friendly of pressure..he he.

In QLD how do people feel about this
http://robowars.org/forum/viewtopic.php?t=1633

I am keen to trial this sort of system with low fees to try and see if this system could improve attendance/robots. It would be with low costs and up to 100% refund I think until we work out bugs. I am not really too keen to enforce anything with high costs and not complete refund for local events.

But it would be a big help for public events if we continue to host them.

One Idea to increase the turnout in the short term. Would be for all the local builders to bring two feather robots to each event. Along with someone who is interested...Friend/Family...as the driver of the second robot.

So Steve ,Aaron,Daniel,Miles,Jules, ect all had a second robot with a driver. That would double the attendance right off the bat.

I'm just thinking a generic robot...that could be a rammer/wedge. It would only be $60 for Drills(motor&Batteries), $100 hacked esc's, $50 hk trx. thats $200 for a second feather. I'm sure nearly everyone here would have a certain amount of spares already laying around at home, if not a second robot already, so it might not even be that much effort to do.

That way events would have more impact because there is more competitors and that may inspire others to build.

Just A thought(it is 4am though... he he).

I think one feather is probably enough for us to handle most of the time. Would be nice to have more but probably better to go for one quality robot then two you just throw together. You got a film to finish anyway....

Idea with Bretts suggestion is more along the lines of getting people to nominate their robot early and then follow through so you know exactly whats happening so you can plan events around that.
