Yes I considered that. However the only regulator I could find was quite expensive from palmers pursuit and required some special punching tool and stuff.

Update on the Ants.

I was pretty disappointed with how everything went yesterday. Scorpy manage to win 2 by default but got completely destroyed as soon as it came near a spinner. To be honest I have just about given up on servo drives. They are just too shit and really are the limitation of a lot of my robots.

I also fried something in BB mini I have looked at it yet I am hoping it wasn't the motor as that will be quite hard to replace.

Have you considered using higher quality servos than whatever your using -HXT900's like me i guess?

Ive been trying to find some metal gear servos and/or ball bearing that arent too heavy - the only issue is that some arent hackable and some arent speed moddable

A spinner hit on any drive servo is likely to damage it. I had a metal gear servo ripped apart after one event. (Even though the wheel was surrounded by titanium.) Servos still last better than Pololu gear motors.

Its not so much the impact resistance of them. They are ok most of the time.

The down side is the speed really.

For power and speed, you cannot go past the Pololu style gearmotors. If you mount them correctly and minimise any direct impacts onto the gearboxes, they last quite as while. Scarlet/Kruger went the whole FMC2 event without losing a motor between them.

For a man with many ESCs I seem to be having a lot of trouble getting a bot driving.

So today...

Got all sabertooth wired up and good to go lastnight. So all I had to do when I got naked-turtle running was plug it in. Which was all good till I actually went to plug it in. Managed to plug the battery into the motor lead didnt do it for long didn't get hot just saw this whisp of what thought was probably magic smoke coming out of it. Screwed round with it for about an hour then gave up.

Next step was to try IBC but it has something very wrong with it.

So now I have just managed to revive the ESC I thought was DOA. It was DOA but only 1 bridge is screwed so managed to get it back to life.

So now I am actually testing my own ESCs.

Time to go finish it off.

One more positive about hacked ESCs you can blow them up twice.

Its not leaking atm but I think it probable will from my dodgy cylinder mount. I only have one cylinder as well so once I am out not sure what the plan will be.

Coke bottle + bike valve + 12V compressor = 100psi replacement setup!

There is a car type valve on the top of the buffer to which you might be able to attach a compressor.

Yeh I have been testing with that. Was going to remove it but have come up with an alternate solution. Looks like it might actually work flipper is pretty weak but hey if I can drive around all day and sorta flip people that is fine with me.

So what I learnt today.

Sabertooth is shit so need to ditch it. Just drops out all the time. I will have to buy some more tz85a's.

My current plan is to leave the robot as they are fix/tweak everything.

wEdge bot was completely unacceptable, its wedging capability was minimal as I hadn't sanded down the wedge properly and with the sabertooth dropping out all the time it just couldn't drive. The magnum clone drives from shane seem to be holding up quite well. The motors don't have a lot of power and I think I might replace them not sure if this is just as they are low current motors or if its because of the sabertooth but the torque and speed seems a lot lower than a standard drill.

Naked Turtle went ok. The flipper is pretty weak but it drove all day and managed to just keep flipping with the r134a gas with no issues. It needs to be tweaked so that its ground clearance is just right. Could use a bit of improvement with the the mounting of the 134a cylinder.

The only two robots still running at the end of the melee (wEdge bot poorly) but that is a first for me. Next robot to make is a revised version of Sky turtle/naked turtle that uses r134a/butane and possibly has 2 rams or a bigger one and then may also vent and ignite the in a flip and flame action.

Bit sick of ants. I am going to try and build a proper scorpy over the next few weeks. I would also like to redo the BB mini but I just dont think it will work because of the physics of the small bots. Am also thinking beetle melty brain or the flywheel flipper but not sure which yet. More likely is the melty as it is mechanically much simpler.

Anyway good day most fun I have had an event in a long time. Was nice an relaxed and I didn't have to chase after anything or run madly around like the edge events. Also running two feathers which were pretty reliable was a lot easier than a single ant which I had to rebuild every fight.
