Well the Banebots 3-9A ESC's work perfectly well with the common '1000rpm gearmotors' from virtualvillage/ebay most of us use. A few of us in NSW have run this setup on 4S with no issues but im not aware of anyone having gone above that.

I would suggest if the ratings are realistic that 15A is probably going to cover all the average beetle builder is going to ever need

Also, im still interested in instant-reversible hacked BESC's for brushless motors used as drive motors, you mentioned this possibility initially

I can see a lot of issues with purerly instant. A lot quicker then standard delays (to the point you probably wont notice much over a standard DC) sounds more reasonable but a lot of work. I would first try and get the system so you can sense the brushless like the high cost industrial setups

I have ordered a bunch of besc's to start modding for DC soon, see how it goes.

Writing a brushed controller is trivial compared to a brushless controller I could spend weeks working on it and even then it might work with some motors and fail with others.

There is some code out there but for a reversible controller it would not be an easy task.

For those of you who want instant feather controllers and don't want to wait for feather testing.

Well once again aaron has come up with an idea to help you and I have implemented it in 20min. lol

As we all remember many years ago brett did up a picaxe board for controlling relays. Well I have just modified my code to support exactly the same thing.

You will need 2 relays per board

And for each board a tz12a ( currently on supported on atmel)

So what does that come out as.
4xtz12a = $33 + 10* relays = $28 .. comes to $61 dollars for two bot controllers. Obviously no PWM or anything buy hey you are now down to $15 per controller and can run it off pretty much any voltage with any motor and the most you are going to blow is a few relays which can be easily replaced. Only other additional component which might be necessary is a flyback diode. ($1 max for 10+)

Anyway I may have this running over easter brake Wink

You need to use 2x 5 pin SPDT relays to make a h-bridge for each motor.

Make sure the code only changes the relay states at 0% PWM for preventation of arcing and sticking in the relay contacts.

No PWM Brett. Its just a straight relay controller. So no real way to avoid arcing.

However.... if Nicks motor controller for his mag motor works out a similar principle with a pair of relays could be used to drive much larger motors with PWM control.

Well been scratching my head with this code for past 2 days.

Turns out code was theoretically fine. I was just fighting the optimiser I think.
In any case this doesn't work.
