Which weight classes will be most popular in QLD throughout 2011? Ants are obvious. Will the feathers or the beetles be more popular this year?

I think this pretty much comes down to what we have access to an arena for. If we starting picking up pace with public events then we might be setting up the feather arena 4+ times a year.

However if we actually build a beetle arena which is much easier to setup/ transport than the feather one then I can see that becoming more of our normal class and only pulling out the feathers for bigger events.

At this stage I am willing to say either, we have many more feathers but the availability and painfulness of setting up the arena will be the limiting factor. We currently have 0 beetles but if we get a few might be worth building a beetle arena which could change things.

Basically will depend on which way people go but I would say build a beetle and keep a feather handy for public events.

An easy beetleweight arena could be assembled using 8 of the featherweight arena panels in a 2x2 config. would give us an indestructive 2400x2400 sized arena for them.

Thats still 1/2 of the pain and not transportable without trailer an can't be pit together by one person. I was hoping for much less pain.

I remember setting up the feather arena by myself when we first built it. Flat concrete was the main issue.
I'm not very excited about beetles. I already have 2 ants and 2 feathers and at the moment I only dream of going heavier. But that's only dreaming

just saying - if you get excited about beetles you have more interstate comp opportunities

Can someone point me to a table of weight divisions vs arena sizes?

Also hangin for feather & uberfeather. Got a behemoth in the works.

We use a bit of a mix of US and UK classes here.

150g - UK Antweight (US Fairyweight) - arena something around 1m square
1.36 kg - Beetleweight (3lb) - we recently determined in NSW that the max practical size for this would be 2.4 x 2.4 as Knightrous mentioned
13.6 kg - Featherweight (30lb) - size varies but generally a double garage is a good guide
27.0 kg - Lightweight (60lb) - we have only run these inside featherweight arenas so far

I dont know if we have run heavier than this but they would be:
54 kg - Middleweight (120lb)
100 kg - Heavyweight (220lb) - Robot Wars TV show primary class
