Let's all move to Dubbo! The last time I stayed there, the motel had a *very* long list of things things that the council banned you from doing, but running killer bots down the main street wasn't one of them
The beetle arena needs top priority, but we did discuss an end of year scrapheap challenge event - I'm up for anything that involves turning trash into something loud & (semi) dangerous.
We need to at least lay down some plans for next year - after the QLD event, its not too long until the Robowars event and then we don't usually do anything until late February or even March. Let's get into the beetles or a feather event early to mid Feb this time!

As cool an idea as it is, I say we scrap the scrapheap challenge. I think we should focus our efforts on something less grandiose. _________________ Farnsworth - "I hate these nerds. Just because I'm stupider than them they think they're smarter than me."

Grandiose scrap ? Ah well, if its not going to work out, I can always focus on building meaner robots...
Also Ideas festival is May IIRC, so something to keep in mind. _________________ Steven Martin

I thought the Ideas festival was every 2 or 3 years - has it been that long?

Just started looking at the areana steel order; waiting for Edcon to give me a quote on delivery. I figure its going to be a bit more than getting them to cut all the steel to length, but I don't really trust them to do it accurately.
I also ordered some drill bit bushings to make the jigs more accurate - if its all done right the arena panels will line up perfectly and setup will be a breeze. I recall quite a bit of swearing and hammering when the other arenas were being assembled

For steel, it might be worth trying KRE Metal and More in Windsor.
They seem to do good prices, and generally cut accurately too (one time I got a dodgy batch, so they did it for free next time) _________________ The Engine Whisperer

I will have a look, but driving to Windsor would be a pain
Edit: they don't appear to have an on-line catalogue like Edcon

It looks like there might be a few good interstate events next year; assuming the beetleweight arena works out, would people be interested in going Melbourne or Brisbane with it instead of having an event at the same time here?

No catalogue, but they either have or can get pretty much everything.
I drive out there pretty often for steel _________________ The Engine Whisperer

Right, so after Brisbane we need to knuckle down and get this arena built. Then organise some events. I know people already know this, just re-stating it so that we don't lose focus. _________________ Farnsworth - "I hate these nerds. So running on the momentum of a good event at the Edge we should try and sort out a few things.
1. The beetle arena. We need to get some progress on this so we can have some capability of doing public events. Albeit some scale ones.
2. Maybe we should have a go at doing a full scale public event. The target organisation will be The Powerhouse Museum. Some research leads me to believe that their ethos will suit nicely with our type of sport and what we want to do.
I'm going to suggest to them of running it during National Science week, where for the last 5 years they have been part of the Ultimo Science festival
http://www.ultimosciencefestival.com/usf10/
Which would mean August 2011 prob mid to late based on the previous dates.
So what I need to make a somewhat professional pitch to them is;
A decent looking website for NSWRFC
A DVD sample of footage of some of our robots in action.
Jaemus has volunteered for both, but it would be quicker if he did up the website and someone else did the footage. I know some of you have heaps of footage collected over the years. All I need is 10 minutes of sample fights, shots of crowd, pits etc. Along with some backing music. So any volunteers? _________________ Farnsworth - "I hate these nerds. Sounds like a good timeline. _________________ Steven Martin

Hopefully it's enough to get everything sorted. Obviously longer would be better, but in a way longer can just mean more procratination. _________________ Farnsworth - "I hate these nerds. Just because I'm stupider than them they think they're smarter than me."
