Currently building two 150g UK ant weights myself Smile
If you start building Sozbots (us ant weights) I might by an rc car to join in the fray.

Just an update, atm it looks like we may be going ahead with a antweight and sumo bot workshop.

I am not sure about an event I would like to see it happen but I am not sure if the realise exactly how much it will cost. If everything goes ahead I will probably be looking for a few volunteers to help with workshops.

Ok so they got scared at the initial budget I put in. Could probably do some things cheaper but might have to cut down a few things.

Does anyone have any ideas for motors/ESC combo for the sumo bots?
I would like to keep the entire robot < $100 obviously relays is an option but I would like to avoid it if possible. But I am finding it difficult to find a decent combo for under $70.

Other option I have been considering is another form of competition, sorta more aimed at the university level.

I am meeting with them again 2moro so will see what I can work out.

Also Andrew/Daniel can you pm me the price for our last lot of insurance I have a pretty good idea but just wanted to check.

kits for less than $100 will be hard to do. the cheapest I think we could do is modified servos and a small micro controller. We could bulk buy the servos from ebay for $5 - $10.

If we did that would be same as the antweights pretty much which could work out well. Although if we are looking at the 500g sumo the servos would be pretty gutless compared to other options.

there are 100g sumo and as you are not planing to compete internationaly at this stage u could make up your own rules.
Full serovs for 500g might have a bit of guts as a few ants have a bit of pushing power with submicros.
And they could be powered off the same bus as the micro just need to use a couple of pwm or i/o chanels to drive them. quite a basic circuit and almost nothing needed more then a microboard with a vreg.

Ok so atm everything looks pretty good. Will let us know by the launch date (Feb 26th) whether we are going ahead or not. So will know definitely in 2.5 weeks whether we are going ahead or not.

Tentative date for first antweight workshop is the 18th of April. Will be looking for volunteers and have just ordered a heap of parts for myself/development. Ideally would like to have a base kit that we should have done in a month so we can send that out to a few people and see if they can manage to put it together. I should have this pretty well covered.

Sumo probably will not be happening. Too expensive @ $150 for a robot and probably not enough time to do it properly anyway.

Arena is going to need some work. Looks like we will only have the option of the auditorium or outside as there isn't anywhere else big enough. I think auditorium would be better as the spaces outside are all uncovered and there isn't really any big areas but we will have to watch the floor. So might need a few layers of protection. What is the absolute biggest downward gash anyone has seen? They should be able to put down a layer of carpet under/around the arena.

Workbenches and stuff will be located downstairs bit of a bitch but I don't think there is enough space upstairs. The area downstairs is more of a workspace so don't have to worry about damaging the floor down there too much. There is also a workshop which we can possibly use as a hot work area.

The mention of fire and flamethrowers didn't scare them too much so should be alright.

I should have a 900 x 900 x 600 sized antweight arena ready by April for workshops / comps.
