Isn't the IBC picaxe based? If so they're $315. Smile Two channels and two AUX's in the one board... mmmm

Hi all
The ver III of the PRC was successfully bloodied in Robowars 2007 . It ran stably without problems or reboots despite some serious shocks etc . The PRC used the same basic configuration as Ver II , The PRC-2 and radio receiver is being powered from three alkaline non rechargeable cells for a voltage of about 4.6v . The outputs go directly into a 2003 driver chip but the 2003 is also powered from the cells . Each of the outputs of the 2003 are connected to the mimic led's but they are also connected to a 5v relay . The 5v relay contacts then activate the main drive relays . This provides full electrical isolation of the radio receiver and PRC2 from the main drive circuit . If you have a very noisy (electrical) environment like my robot “Vincent” this is a must . I have added more caps to reduce spikes but these are likely not needed with full isolation from the main drive power. Version III is built on a larger board simply to make it easier to work on for me . I will approach some “circuit” board builders about getting a short run of boards made if there is enough interest in it , you will still have to assemble it yourself but the hard work of connecting wires will be done making them very easy to build . Although I have changed the code slightly – it was only too suit my robot and not to improve performance. I will probably drop the 8mhz from the code as it doesn’t need it ( the main loop runs on 4mhz ) . If you want a experimental board – post here , I expect the cost may be $20 each because of the short run and you will have to buy your own components. Eventfully the boards should be very cheap and might cost as little as $30.oo including just how many parts you want. I’ll try to post more soon . Enjoy Moth

would it be possible if we purchuse these to have the picaxe pre-programed or will we have to do that part our self because some people (me Embarassed ) dont have any experience whatsoever in programing pics

I'm very interested in all these cheap alternative boards being developed I saw at robowars. Both the one in vincent and that really tiny one I caught a glimpse of in spearhead. I'd definatly need a couple to be used in my school MDP project as IBC's can't even be considered due to cost. Laughing Don't worry though, i'm not stealing or selling off anyones ideas, just trying to get a good HSC mark in a field I love! Very Happy

I'm sure that Spokie or myself could supply just the chips pre programmed if someone needed them . The PRC will hopefully be eventually available in a basic kit with a pre programmed micro .

Its not really hard to download the software to the PICs. You need a computer with a serial port and a simple lead. The programming software is downloadable for free from the internet. If you have the ability to download to the pic then we can e-mail software updates to you .

The PRC does not need to be very big , I just built the experimental board that way

Put me down for 2 boards Rick. After seeing the performance of Vincent, I'd like to support your production run by getting a few boards. I'm sure I can find something to put them in and also tinker with the code to my own liking.

Is there a PCB run yet?

Or can someone send me the latest code/schematic?

I was looking for an updated copy of the picaxe manual and I found in it that there are a few new models with some new features.

New chips are, 14M, 28X1, 28X2, 40X1 & 40X2. The 28X* and 40X* chips run up at 20mhz.

New chips pins and features here
New commands/functions here

Thought this might be interesting to some of the other picaxe fans out there Smile

*EPIC DREDGE* Thanks glen for finding this xD

With the current financial climate i'm once again interested in these cheap relay boards... If anyone has unwanted prototypes or info, send it my way:P I'm not too good with the programming part but the rest of the electronics is fine . Smile

If I was gonna get serious about revising my precious picaxe controller, I'd be moving it to AVR. I might still have a prototype board that ran in Sproing for RoboWars 3...

I put a summary of this on the wiki to try and make life simple. Tell me if I missed anything.

By the sound of it your still running thes controllers on veroboard right? I'm setup to etch pcbs so if you'd like id be happy to etch a couple of boards for you, if you draw them up.
