Opto isolation get your opto isolation here
basically it helps to protect your reciever from the noise given off by the controller.
For our bot (Plan-B) with the IBC it doubled our radio range, i think it had simmilar results with glens (Cobra).
basically you plug the servo leads from your controller into this, then go from this to your reciever.
Ideal situation is about midway between the controller and the reciever.
bugetary price atm is $10+GST per channell
so 3 chanells of isolation is $33 + PnH
end result for a 3 chan reciever is a bit smaller than the normal sized recievers, (not the tiny little ones).
minimal power drain. you will need the BEC of your controller *ON* and the reciever itself will need battery power (rember to turn it off after your round) as there is *NO ELECTRICAL CONNECTION* between controller and recever after this.
I still need to source a few parts but lead time for this should be low (a week or so). _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

SOOO tempting
But wouldent you get the same result if you just used a separet power suply for the reciever?
And can you make a filter that filters out the majority of interfearence but still alows you to use the bec? _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

no because there is still a boatload of noise traveling down the signal wires from the controller.
we could reliably drop radio range (as judjed by a servo) by putting the servo lines *near* the antenna, and that is not connected to the reciever at all.
it might be possible to filter the noise but the filtering on the IBC is quite good and there is still alot of HF getting through it, going much beyond whats there is definatly heading into black art territory.
that and i have done this and it works ;-p _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

Well im tempted
And if i get one id get a 3 channel one
Beets buying a new 75mgs radio controlle just for range. _________________ Tim Team Reaper.

Sorry Jake, you haven't convinced me. How about you build a device that stops the recievers from breaking in my robots from shock or making a super strong aerial that will take a few hundred KJ's and you might snag my attention..
So far, we get no radio problems with the IBC, we have only experinced aerial and reciever problems. This opto iso just seems to be a bandaid for a problem that can be cured by a half decent installation. _________________ https://www.halfdonethings.com/

hehe the IBC is just a bandaid for people who cannot provide proportional control by jiggling their servo switching on and off rapidly!

well the first device is called foam
i can sell you some of that but i dont think it will be enough to buy me an expensive enough bed to sleep at night
we removed the steel sheild and have the same results now.
(we also disabled the switcher on the IBC which gave us a large boost too) _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

well i can only give this the thumbs up.
basically i couldnt get cobra on an AM radio to work past about 5 meters. i had it chugging around jeffs on a am 2er radio with no problems at all.

So, can I have one tomorrow? I was Googling for some design ideas anyway and then you came up withthe goods Its a great price and I am happy to be first in the queue. _________________ Australian 2015 Featherweight champion

$7 each is getting excessive
i'd guess more like $10 for 10 in commercial overpricedness _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

We get the servo leads from a local hobby store for about $4 each I think, but we usually buy 50-100 to get that price. If anyone knows of a cheaper source for them, I'm sure Jason would be happy to hear it.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

Have you tried asking the hobby store who their supplier is?
