I should say that the weights and sizes I quoted for Andys and and my
Antweights were based on Englands rules (wich we found pre robowars)-While it was challenging to build at that size, the robowars weight of 454g
leaves a lot space to play around and you can build a little stronger!!-Ive torn down mine and Im going to do one at the new weight-Does anyone know if there is a size limit (eg English ants must fit into a 4inch box!)

Ill see what I can put together for Marayong-Id still like to see a few
ants bash it out on the day!!

454g sounds more reasonable. Again all my beetles so far have been made to 1.36kg but I'll endevour to make a 454g one. The reason 150g was so hard for me to reach was my drives along are 60g ea! Laughing
And no size limit. Smile
EDIT:454g sorry...
... And i'm in bondi! Shocked
Very Happy

you will probably have more competition if you come up to the beetle weight class though..

Actualy, just weighed all my parts. Impossible for me to even make 500g... my battery packs and drives just weight too much. I'll be making a beetle, and you both can fight me at once if you like as a multibot lol. Smile

Im quite happy to build a beetle, but being realistic, I dont think Im
gonna be able to build one in a week that Id be happy with, so Im
going to build one for the next meet-Im keen to see as many classes get going as we can. Means I have more time to just concentrate on
getting Razorback ready for next saturday- Very Happy (Thx for the tip Valen!)

*dredges*
This is one mainly for the guys from overseas who make the 150g ants but some local people might know too...
I'm trying to see if there is an equivilent esc on the market as the now discontinued scorpion mini... the banebots 3A is not what i'm after. If nothing on the maket suits, i'll have to carry on with my diy one...

Also, anyone have an idea what mah and cell rating should be used? I'm getting stupidly mixed answers from 150mah-300mah. As soon as I find out i'll be able to order heaps of cells to get some progress underway...

Cheers. Smile

For driving those Sanyo gear motors, you can probably get away with the electronics from a standard servo.

I have been, it works ok but they only get 5v, so are rather slow... I suppose its a fairly large cost upgrade though I suppose... Confused
EDIT: Nick it's said that for ages! Crying or Very sad

Unfortunately robotpower measure "real soon" more in geological time than our calendar time. It has been on "real soon" status for over 6 months.

when it comes to single motor esc's (like the scorpion mini) the banebots are pretty much the only real alternative atm. for the dual motor version the Sabretooth 2x5A might be a solution.

Sounds like somebody needs to reverse engineer one - the automotive chip the scorpions use (not sure about the mini version) didn't seem too intimidating.

The one i'm working on is based around this http://www.barello.net/Papers/RCtoPWM/RC%20Speed%20Control%20brd.gif
But with an updated avr and a 1A cont quad half bridge ic. I've done it with smd where possible and if I can etch it at work I might as well make it part of the chassis Laughing

Hmm ok, next point;
How thick should the polycarb be in an arena designed for ants up to beetles? 3mm sounds slightly overkill, but 1mm not enough... bear in mind how expensive it is and thus far, will all be from my own pocket...
