Hydrolic floor jack presure valves

i have a question here, any one know how the presure valves on hydrolic floor jacks work?

To the best of my knowlage the screw thread presses in on an internal link closing the presure chamber allowing it to be presurised and the fluid in the waste pool gets pumped into the chamber and further more into the ram.

Im really not sure about it hence why im asking if any one knows.
