Motor acceleration

Motor acceleration

Without having to buy and ESC, would capacitors wired to a motor change the acceleration (significant amount)?

How large would the capacitors have to be?

not at all lol, you could use some massive resistors to limit the speed. some hobby controllers have a servo that switches between 3 resistors to limit the speed. massively innefficient too Razz

a capacitor will only store energy. at best you could only use them to suppress noise and maybe provide a quick burst of current when its needed..

I'm assuming your referring to the RC time constant (tor). It is simply worked out to be R x C equals the time taken to get to 63%. Now to get this to work the way you wanted would require a resistor in the supply line going to the capacitor and motor.

Now it all depends on your current and voltage requirements, to determine if this has any chance of working. Post some motor specs and I'll show you if it would work.

5 time constants = full charge

i study physics

the supply voltage is 7.2v and so is the motor.

currently the amperage is unknown but ill find out by monday.

it will probably be in about the 200ma ~ 2A range
