The FRA are modifying their arena standards. This is taken from the FRA site:
All the event organisers agreed that safety was of the highest priority and have decided to implement the guidelines with immediate effect.
This is how it effect’s roboteers.
ARENA’S WITH A FABRIC STYLE ROOF.
“Spinning weaponry of any sort is not permitted in a class XX arena, all axe weaponry must have a safety tether fitted in order to run”
It applies to both featherweights and heavyweights.
We have had problems with debris from spinners escaping the fabric covered arenas also, IIRC. Should we also look at this standard for our arenas? _________________ So even the rain that falls isn't actually going to fill our dams and our river systems

126m² UMHD PE is waiting to be put on the Dutch robotgames arena.
The only thing I can add.
I have seen the incident to what the FRA is reacting very late.

During the FRA championships the disk of Scorpion broke off a tooth and it flew through the arena roof over the spectators stand. Fortunatly no one was hurt but it could have easily happened.

Hmmm good point. The chance of something happening like this at robowars was discussed before... maybe the arena really does need a new roof? _________________ ( •_•)

I will discuss this with SideTracked.. Given the recent growth of Vertical spinners, it sounds like a good idea.
I'm thinking that some of the 6mm Polycarb side panels are getting a little battered, so we could probably replace them and move the damaged ones to the roof above the dual-layer mesh.
Hows the roof looking on Jeffs Shed ? _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

Ok, a tether on an axe weapon means a bit of string to stop the axe head from flying away if it should snap off during a swing. Apparently John Reid put a steel cable running down the handle of Terrorhurtz's axe for this purpose. I'm not sure if any of my hammers could reach the roof, let alone go through it, and I have no idea how to tether my big blade if it should suddenly fly apart. Seems to be a bit of over protection to me.

seems pretty knee jerk.
to my mind the tether on projectiles isn't be to stop things flying out of the arena its to make the game more interesting. (Otherwise people just use nailguns)
The arena should handle any and all failures the bot could have, If your axe was mid swing when jolt hit it then tether or no its going flying. _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets

I thaught thet the tethered rule was always in the arena standards document. The only time that you didn't need one was in a "class one" arena.
