Waterjet cutting

Would like to ask anyone on some advice, info on this procedure.

What I would like to do if feasable is get large holes cut out of my large steel sprockets.

THey are about 100mm by 5mm thick and would be great if I could get about 8 holes cut out of them of a large size, or funky shapes.

Could be done with a drill but dont have large bits or a drill large enough.

I believe David has done something similar with Arachnophobia, I think it was with water.

Anyway any help appreciated about this and costs involved and who does it in Melbourne

Rather than holes, cut wedge sections out to make spokes, it will save more weight. Have a look at bicycle sprockets fo some ideas on what's appropriate. Whatever shape you cut, make sure there are no sharp angles to avoid stress fractures.

I found that waterjet places charge a one-off set up fee and then charge based on cut length or "on time" or some combination. It's pretty competitive in Sydney and the quotes only varied by about 10%

Most places will want a drawing in some standard CAD format like Autocad, They will probably charge much more if you give them a paper drawing they have to redraw.

I don't know any places in Melbourne, but I found 3 good places in Sydney with Google and Yellowpages online.
