What wheels do you use?

The title says it all, what wheels are people using these days? As I've decided to resurect one robot and build another it would be good to know if there are any new developments in wheel technology Shocked or are the Red Bunnings wheels still the most advanced wheels on the market Laughing

Unless you want to either get jake in NSW to make you some custom ones (once he's got time)... or get some stuff from america?

Jake in NSW wil make urethane wheels to order .they are much more grippy than the red wheels
Some others are importing wheels from the states i jsut stick to the bunnings whels as they are the cheapest to replace .

colson wheels from america on cobra, red wheels paired up side by side on woodzilla, jakes custom wheels on raiden. jakes have hands down been the best so far. almost 2 years solid on the same set and no real wear. Very Happy

Ok, are the grippy more expensive wheels proving to be harder on motors/gearboxes. Is it better to have a lack of traction, limiting current draw and load on drivetrains, or is traction better at the risk of killing ESC's and drivetrains? As with everything, to get one thing you usually have to trade off something else.

jakes wheels kill the original gearboxes as do the colsons and any other high traction wheel, but andrew a makes some SWEEET modified gearboxes now that prevent them breaking Very Happy

Yeah, the AndrewMods rule, but then you start looking at frying 12v motors on 24v Laughing Glen has broken more drills then anyone, yet he hasn't broken Andrew's prototype AndrewMOD gearboxes. I'm using the AndrewMOD design with my own custom parts to make the gearboxes for my Astroflights, so we'll get to see if the gears and mods will handle 20Nm stall torque. Cool

Wheel Update:

For those who use Red bunnings wheels and go through a lot of them, we sell them here at work for $3.03 each (GST inclusive). But by the looks of it, I might be able to order a few packets for people for around a wholesale price of $1.70 ea due to my staff discount.

If anyone is interested, let me know. I'm sure I can fit 10 red wheels per Express post pack Wink
