I cant wait until Plan-F gets a blue screen of death..
Well, not really, but Microsoft-OS powered combat bots seem strangely worrying for some reason.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

Futaba didnt trust Windows CE when they used it as a GUI for their top-of-the-line 14mz radio
from http://www.14mz.com/ - "The 14MZ takes advantage of two separate internal processors for maximum efficiency and reliability. A custom Futaba processor expertly directs all functions dedicated to flight control. Input for general operating tasks — such as set-up and programming — is processed by Windows CE."
So the Windows GUI can crash, but the actual RC link is run from a seperate independant micro. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

RC aeroplanes dont have a "tap out" button is why i would deffinatly do it that way if i were doing it for that market (windows GUI, MCU for important stuff). For robot combat, i dont see running through a PC as being a problem. We are generally too dynamic in our bots configuration to make a MCU based TX worth the effort.
The probbability of an OS error in any given 3 minute period is pretty low. I'm more worried about the wires coming off the motors ;->.
All the hybrid cars i have dreamed up have a PC for GUI and a MCU to do the day to day stuff (and as a "limp home mode", the car would run without the PC, but it wouldnt have all the funkyness the PC can bring wrt power profiles etc.) _________________ Mechanical engineers build weapons, civil engineers build targets
