Everyone likes destruction as long as *they* arent paying the repair bill..
After multiple repair bills and watching a few slaughterings you will realise its not the destruction that counts, its the *competition* that makes it exciting.
Noone stands around watching a car crusher squash cars for more than a few minutes without getting bored, despite the "destruction".
What makes for an exciting fight is the *battle* where the viewers can "feel" the conflict between two struggling roughly equal opponents and are uncertain of the outcome until near the ending. Sure, the occasional hiding is temporarily fun, but not for long, most people would rather watch an even battle than a rout any day.
The hard part is trying to show people this since they naturally all want to play in the "Pro" class and deal out their imagined destruction and carnage to all challengers..
But once they see the cost of stepping into the ring on a par with experienced combatants, and learn that if you want to give it out, you have to be able to take it as well, and sometimes *you* will be the one on the losing end of the destruction, then they might change their minds and set their sights a little lower to start with..
The main problem I see is that Bot-Bash is mainly aimed at the younger more inexperienced builders, who hate being told that their dreams have to pass the reality test and actually be paid for in terms of time, money and effort. Most of them want to run before they can even walk..
If people can get over that sort of unrealistic expectation, then I think the BotBash class will do well.. _________________ Great minds discuss ideas. Average minds discuss events. Small minds discuss people

Well, i would have benefited from a NSW botbash comp, with my robot being completely trashed by two hightech robots (well, one was and the other just powerfull). and is now unrepairable. it's this price and sophictication differance that makes botbash so appealing to me. Although damage doesn't really annoy me that much, it's the fact that I can't afford mills, Ti and other materials which will almost always make my robots fail against them. Sure, there are some robots that have been cheaply built, and are successfull, but at the moment, it's unlikly i could do that...
Although now i'm making a drum-bot, so i won't be able to compete...
Might i also say that in the last few months i've learnt SO much, and the stupid responses i constantly get from kids like "put a tazer on it!", are REALLY starting to bug me... _________________ ( •_•)
