ROFLchopter:

Drive motors, axle, wheels - free (lying around for years)

Frame - free (leftover speed frame from bench making)

Armour - free (leftover rack case parts)

Saw motor - free (scrap car cooling fan)

Saw motor mounting - free (old outdoor security camera bracket)

Batteries - free (sample NiMh packs I was using at work)

Tyres x 2 - $2.80 (plumbing o-rings)

Microswitches x 6 - ~$18 (Jaycar)

Bolts - ~$5

Radio gear - $30 (Hitec 2 Channel on special)

All other little bits and pieces were just junk lying around.

So the total is about $56, 3 evenings to build it, and a bit of time at work on the last friday to throw together the switching controller.
