Began machining some of the gears.

Been waiting for these to arrive so I can CAD up another section of the design.

More machining.

Machining down some 30mm bar to 20mm for a shoulder, then stepping the rest down to 15mm & 14mm.. So much swarf Sad

Pressed the bevel gear on and began machining the over sized boss down.

Machined the shaft down to 15mm for a bearing.

Machined down the otherside to 14mm, need to reduce the shoulder at the bevel gear as soon as I can find my left hand tool.

This gear needs bored out to 14mm to press onto the above shaft, unfortunately I only have a 13mm drill bit and a boring bar that wont fit in anything less then a 16mm hole Razz This will have to wait till I can get a smaller bar.

So how did it turn out? I have been saving that trick up for ages - it should do a good job in theory.

It worked.
Had to go really slow as I was using an MDF packer to get it to the right height for the cut and I was expecting it to shift if I gave it too much.
I'll have to get around to making a holder for this in future to make it more rigid.

A combination of 3D printed test parts and some machined parts.

Currently fiddling around with the hub design.

The uni joint join gets trimmed down to the minimal amount that I will be able to still TIG weld

Mock assembly. The pivot on the hub is a little off still and doesn't match the center of the uni joint, so it might need adjusted further depending if it causes binding.

Another revision of the hub, now featuring dual bearings and some adjustments to the offset.

The wheel hub had to be flipped to the outside to reduce the offset by 5mm.

Currently have a pair of ball bearings on the steering hub pivot points, but they are a bit over kill and will likely be replaced with some smaller units or potentially just some bushes.

Quick mock up so I could measure some bits, cad up some new parts and get the printer running.

Uni joint welded to the shaft

Reassembled into the ver5 (6?) steering hub

Pressing the centre bearings.

15T press makes this a simple job compared to hammering.

Winning.

Will eventually shim the depth the bearings press into the housing, for now though, itís just till it touched the gear Razz

Quick dummy up, itís pretty close to the reference design, it might just work!
